Hi,

I was watching news at 9 on FOX ch.2 last night which is run by ch.13. They flashed to the ch.13 newsroom to to "see what was going on the scanners". A guy talked about all the DWI arrests on St. Patt's day. In the background I could hear his scanners/radios.

SO...I have read a million times how ABQ/Bern. CO. cannot be recived on a scanner.

How do news agencies in ABQ monitor?

The news rooms have LPE-200's that the city did program for them. When the City/County first went to the Provoice system, they were pissed off having to spend more then 2K for a radio.

You can also hear the ABQ PD dispatcher (not the mobiles) on the scanner. Two of the talkgroups are also broadcast on VHF repeaters including the mobile transmissions.

I got to see one of the Channel 7 satellite van's up close, and they had a Orion with no microphone inside. I would assume that the rest of the local news trucks would also have ways to monitor.

Also, the 2 VHF freq's are just a simplex patch...no repeaters. 1 to the westside talkgroup, and 1 to the valley talkgroup. The dispatchers can turn them on/off at will. Now if Rio Rancho / Sandoval county would only program in the westside VHF patch freq....they would be able to communicate with APD for westside issues. What an idea...........

I have heard Rio Rancho PD detective in analog on the west side talkgroup on the trunked system. Was trying to stop a vehicle and was in ABQ. My mobile setup has a PRO-2067 listening to the trunk system dispatchers and a rx only Spectra scanning the VHF freqs along with NMSP, etc. Works pretty good.

Cool....Rio has been (slowly) replacing the old Maxtrac mobiles with CDM1250's, so hopefully with the added channel capacity they were able to add in the Westside freq, and with the Alpha display, they can keep all the channels straight and remember what they all are... :D

N7JEI.... is AFD ALARM now in analog, like APD dispatch? It sure sounds that way listening to the system. Can you pick ALARM up on your 2067?

Won't do you no good if you ain't runnin a provoice radio. The ONLY talkgroups you can monitor off the TRS with a regular scanner is APD Dispatchers on the APD talkgroups (DISPATCHERS only....no officiers) and AFD Alarm (once again....only the Dispatchers.....none of the Fire trucks/units) That's it. No balloon fiesta....no sheriff's, no Fire trucks, no nothing except for APD/AFD dispatch.

I'm not sure what I've heard before, but I've heard what sounds like APD patches on the state car-to-car channel 155.505 on occassion. Usually happens when something is going on in town. Any ideas?

EVENT 1 talkgroup on the system is patched to state car to car, 155.550. That's how APD communicates with SP and/or other users when need be.

Be prepared to drop $700.00 - $1000.00 for one. Ya gotta pay to play provoice.
