Not specifically radio-related, but this is the group that would know the answer...
"Your subject returns with an L1 number only." What's an L1?

Thanks

I don't know specifically, but some radio terminology came from the keyboard commands the dispatchers used to have to enter to access different systems/databases. These terms have become less relevant as agencies have moved away from the older DOS-based interfaces.

For example, I've heard officers ask dispatch to "trip" a plate instead of asking for a 10-28 (registration check). This refers to a "triple check" (registration, wants, and warrants). It's an antiquated term; most of the officers old enough to remember it have retired, so now you usually hear it from younger officers who are trying to be cool.

The best I can do for L1 is this, which I just found online in a CLETS training manual:

There are two basic types of driver’s license histories. They are as follows:

L1 - Basic record, identifying information, license and ID issue data, license status, agency actions, abstracts of convictions, FTA’s and accidents.

F2 - Basic record, identifying information, license and ID issue data, license status, FTA’s, and FTP’s

The computer system used to run DMV records via CLETS has a keyboard shortcut. You type L1 and the mask to run drivers licenses comes up. In cop speak an L1 is just another name for a drivers license.
Yup - Specifically, it's the DMV transaction type.

Fun fact: If you go to DMV and ask for a copy of your driving history, you will get the "standard" report where certain, older items are not shown (like the report the insurance companies get). You can ask for an "H1", which lists EVERYTHING. There are certain civil service jobs that want to see this.
