• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just recently purchased a black Laird GB8 mag mount and an UTRA4502S3NB-001 antenna. Both came without the Laird logos on them. The pictures in the catalog show the items with the logos on them.

Has anyone else purchased Laird equipment and had a similar experience?

Thanks for your help.

From where did you purchase them?
At present, I'm not going to state who I purchased them from, because I'm not certain that they are or aren't genuine and it's also possible that the seller may not even be aware of this.

I am working with the manufacturer to determine if they are genuine. They told me what to look for. I will be taking measurements and sending them more pictures tomorrow.

I'm curious to find out if anyone else has run across this.

As an aside, I have a TRX-2 that kept corrupting SD cards, only to find out that I have been using counterfeit SanDisk cards. I replaced the cards with genuine SanDisk cards and haven't had any trouble since. The visual difference between the genuine and counterfeit cards is subtle, but the difference in performance and reliability is dramatic.

The few Laird antennas and mounts I've purchased always were marked.

I'd be concerned since Tram/Browning like to copy existing designs.
That was my experience prior to this past purchase. Thanks for the info.

Did Laird have you check the underside? All the Laird's I've ever had my hands on had a part number on the underside.
That's what I'm working on with them now. They said that it should have a Laird and/or TE logo on the bottom of the antenna, which it does not. This does have a part number underneath.

Different model antenna, but this is the last one I had my hands on:

Unfortunately I don't recall if it said anything on the outside or not.

And here's an older one:

I have this same antenna, it looks just like that. I purchased it from antennafarm

I have quite a few Laird antennas. They are all marked either Laird, or Antenex. None are unmarked, but the photo the OP showed of the bottom looks correct.

I order Laird antennas from Tessco, always have the writing on them as in the previous picture, plus mine have 806-896 (MHz) on them. The all-black antennas and bases have always been labelled, as I have had to get on some people who wanted plain black antennas and were spray painting them. Some paint has metal in them and can be baaaaaad for antennas, so instead prompted them to use acetone to remove that Laird emblem, and if the base needed painting after that, to only paint the base. All of mine have been marked, VHF, UHF, 800 including the Phantom style antennas. (Antenex or Laird).

My employer uses Laird Antennas and none of them are labeled as Laird. Our supplier buys exclusively Laird Antennas. We buy in bulk 30 to 50 antennas at a time and they are shipped to us in cartons of 10 with the same packaging that rgchristy posted. I suspect that the difference in labeling and packaging might be the difference between retail and bulk packaging.

I'm sorry that I forgot to update this post. Here's some of the information that I received from TE Connectivity:

"Depending when the products where made, to who they were originally sent/sold to could play into this factor. We recently redesigned our large mag mounts and now are shipping them without the Laird logo. Since we were recently were purchased by TE last October, the branding on products, packaging, spec sheets and manual inserts are still be updated. Its going to be a rather slow process as we have thousands of models. Could be a part from when we changed to TE without laird info on the product."

"The look has changed but the same cable/NMO interface in a lower profile. So no performance changes from the design update. One of the biggest differences that this new look improves the cable strain relief and comestic look with our WPD multiband mobile antenna. Since that has a wider base than our other mobile whips, this change makes mounting fit and feel much better. Cable markings and antenna size line up to what they should be. Let us know if you have any issues."

Again, sorry about that.

Hope this info helps.
