Lake County Question

Visiting family for Christmas and brought my Unication G5. I have programmed it for the Lake County Public Safety system. I am listening to Merrillville PD, Hobart PD, and Sheriff. I noticed fire is dispatched on the Alarm TG then respond on one of the three county fire TG or are directed to an Ops TG. My curiosity question is do they use the Town/City specific Fire TGs. For example does Hobart fire ever use the Hobart Fire TG or were they just created when the system was set up and everyone uses the county fire TG.

Every agency has several TGs they could use, each with their own purpose. Dispatching is probably done on a certain TG; each town fire department will each have their own TG for truck to truck or fire ground communications.

Same thing on the law enforcement side of things. Dispatching is done on one TG; car to car is done on another TG - one for each agency.

They do not use the town specific TG's. Those are generally used for special events or training. FD uses Fire East for Gary, Fire West for Hammond, East Chicago and Whiting. All other departments use Fire South. All can use the Ops channels when requested or assigned by Central dispatch.

Thanks. That is what I thought they were doing. The automated Fire/EMS dispatch is interesting.

Correction. The towns of Cedar Lake and Schererville are on the state system - Safe-T. Not a fan of the automated dispatch.
