Interesting, from
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mpscs/MPSCS_October_2012_Newsletter_v13_403856_7.pdf

During the early stages of a project to add a six site simulcast system in Lapeer County, we came to the conclusion that due to the current 800 MHz
environment, it was not possible to obtain the required number of 800 MHz frequencies for the new system.
Even our efforts to solve the issue with frequency shuffles of unprecedented complication were coming up short. If we had been confronted with this problem two years ago, we would have been stuck. But thanks to the recent 7.11 MPSCS upgrade a door to the world
of 700 MHz had been opened.

Also,
Now, site 2102 in Lakeville is on track to be the first
MPSCS site to contain 2 - 700 MHz voice channels.
This channel will not only provide the necessary
capacity to accommodate the welcomed addition of
Lapeer County, but also clears the path for the future
growth and service of MPSCS users.

I wounder if the new TRS will use OTAR (Over The Air Re-keying)? To bad we don't know what the talkgroups will be yet :-( I'm going to change the audio feeds for Lapeer county after they switch to MPSCS I'm going to split PD and FD.

Lapeer County Simulcast Cell #2-25 is now online in test mode. The control channel is 868.7625 MHz. Look for radio and range testing to commence this week across the county.

To avoid simulcast distortion, will the Columbiaville tower be carrying all the Lapeer TG's?

Yes. The Columbiaville tower will become part of the simulcast cell in Lapeer County. This site will contribute greatly to the overall footprint of the system.

Oakland County's CLEMIS Public Safety Communications OpenSky 9600 baud TDMA Digital System will it be compatible with the P25 digital system that Lapeer County is going to?

I want to get a amatuer radio license. Does anybody know when Lapeer's group is testing? The cost? Is it an open book test?

NO! OpenSky is a M/A-COM (Harris) proprietary system in which VERY few agencies across the country actually use. Agencies currently using OpenSky are: Oakland County, MI; Milwaukee, WI; Las Vegas, NV, Pennsylvania State Police, and North Palm Beach County, FL. All but two of these agencies have announced that they are terminating these systems and coming back to Project-25, which does offer true inter-operability and a stable, working platform in which they are not locked into one vendor.

With that said, Oakland County does have some patched talkgroups that are able to communicate with the MPSCS system, but because OpenSky's audio is terrible, it makes it really tough to listen to these talkgroups for any length of time.

Does anyone know the Pro-197 scanner really good? when a PD, FD or EMS talks it cuts like 1 sec of the beginning off the Tx. Can i fix that or should I go buy a Digital Bearcat scanner?

On the way home from work yesterday, talkgroup 1023 Statewide Event 14 keyed up twice with no voice. This was off the Lapeer Simulcast site. Have been getting a control tower signal from the site for a few weeks.

Posted on citizens for lapeer 911 fb page, today is changeover date. If everything goes as anticipated, agencies should be fully changed over by afternoon

The question about the 197 should be in the RadioShack or GRE forum.

You might miss the beginning of tranmissions, based on how many things you are scanning.
