I dont think they know, first plane, then gas tanker and gas station now its poss natural gas. what ever the cause, its big.
the gas co has said 24" gas main involved
25-30 structures and a hundred or more acres of vegetation involved.
"Give me all available engines to 1150 Claremont, I have 6 to 8 homes fully engulfed" - he got 3.

it is a 24' gas main explosion-mass evacuations taking place now-exhausted airdrops, requesting more- people badly burned-I know this neighborhood very well-a lot of families with kids there. Please send your prayers and good thoughts for these folks. I thought gas mains have shutoffs every few miles-why is this thing still gushing gas?? I am 12 miles north in SF and the skies here are pitch black.

A 24" gas main contains a tremendous amount of product. If you shut it down even a half-mile away, it can take many minutes to burn off/vent all the gas.
Live scanner reported at least 15 minutes ago that the gas main is shut now. The remaining fire is 25-30 structures and 10 acres vegetation.

They just transmitted that there are already LOOTERS on two of the eveacuated streets!!!!!! WTF with these assh**es

Police services are operating on the GREEN (488.8875) Fire Command is SMCO Command 51 (151.475) . CHP Heli is on site.

Evacuation is now voluntary, but PD is asking people to leave. Several AMR units on site, SAMTRANS busses onsite for evac. Peninsula hospital has is operation on disater plan and are "packed" with burn victims
