I have decided to take the plunge and get a NMO mount in place of my Wilson 1000. My question is can I use the 36" whip from the Wilson 1000 on the Larsen NMO27C?
Thanks for the quick reply; I figured it would not work which is why I asked. So, I plan on mounting the base right in the middle of my puck-up cab. The roof of the cab is about 6 feet above the ground; so what is the minimum length whip i can use?
Depends on what frequency you're using it on. Here's the cutting chart from Larsen for that antenna http://www.larsen-antennas.com/docfiles/ASB8/CutCharts/NMO_LowBand.pdf but it's probably already cut for the correct length for CB when you purchase it. The different lengths with and without the spring isn't really making the antenna shorter, it's only shorting the rod to compensate for the length of the spring.
with the low band coils you don't want to cut it to the length the chart says, sometimes they have to be longer. i always start out 1-2" longer than the chart says and tune it in from there by taking off a little at a time. close the truck doors as you check it, they will make it read differently when open vs closed.
