*EDITED* OK as far as I can tell, the only way they would be on 700 is if they were using the County's Tac freq..... Though they may have an STA from FCC and be on an new freq... Only way to know is for someone to sit in Lexington, with an digital scanner and see what they hear. I do know that the county's 700 is officially offlined by the FCC right now pending review. Only other pending I can find for TN is the new freqs about to get added to the Homeland Security Pasport TRS in Stewart County....

Follow-Up...

I called the Radio Shack dealer in Lexington, TN, regarding this.

He does confirm Lexington PD have moved to a digital system and that none of the Radio Shack scanners he sells can monitor it (unless unlocked with WIN-96 software).

Seems to confirm the 700Mhz system - possibly a Motorola P-25 or conventional.

OK that means they ARE iether on an STA'ed 700 system thats not even pending per FCC.. or on the "Offlined" County Tac freq.

Are you 100% sure this guy at Radioshack knows what he is talking about? I know at least here in C'ville, they don't know squat when it comes to any of the radio systems around here. They tried to tell me Memphis was on a new Encrypted system and they couldn't be monitored. hahaha.

And BTW, you can't unlock the 96/2096 to do 700 trunking, it won't do it period.

You can monitor conventionally the 700 freqs
With Win96 the 96/2096 will monitor them conventionally.
At least then youll know if there is an active 700 MHz P-25 freq in usage.
If you have the 396/996, then yeah you can trunk 700.

I live in Lexington, but sadly without a digital scanner.

Lexington PD is currently still on 460.425 but digital, so I cannot hear it. BUT the radio shack here (inside a furniture store) does sell a portable and desktop scanner that will decode it (pro 96 and 2096).

I have a couple friends with the pro 96 and they listen to Lex PD.

Update

Lexington PD is completely scrambled as of a few days ago.

A friend of mine that works for the 2way company that services Lexington PD said they were going to be switching to full digital encryption soon. So I guess the time has finally come.

Looks like they've switched (or will switch) to a MOTOTRBO system....
