Ok, i found a thread on here that gives 6 liberty frequencies:

463.550
464.375
464.400
466.150
468.550
469.375

I have gone through all these frequencies and cannot here anything. I have listened to cops where i originally am from but here i can't seem to hear anything. Is there a reason for this? have they done something so i can't here it? please let me know

Hey. I don't know what the ctcss or DCS tones are, but if you don't hear anything, and you're very close, then maybe they are not too active, or they moved to another system which is not showing up on the FCC Web site or is licensed to another company.

Do you have a scanner with Close Call to capture the radio frqs. when you see them talking?

I suspect if those freqs are active they are coming from Candler's Mtn since Liberty owns it. You should hear that no problem. Can you hear any other stuff locally? I know Lynchburg has that EDACS system so that may be tough. What about air freqs (try 133.275) or ham repeaters? It could be that Liberty moved to a trunked system.

i have heard police in lynchburg on 858.9375. I haven't tried 133.275. I don't know if i have something just set wrong on my radio. I have accessed ham repeaters and heard other activity but i can't figure it out why i can't hear the LUPD. I talked to my dad who also has a ham license and he was saying something along the lines that police are now using radio that is digital or something along those lines and makes it harder to listen. But i can't imagine that LU uses this, they just don't seem advanced here i guess you could say!

The second license shows a repeater on 461.150, which I don't think you've listed. You might give that a try. Also try listening at night. Some security is only active on the radios at night, when two or more officers are on duty at once. And then there are the itinerant freqs. Or they could be on Nextel. All things to keep in mind. Good luck.

I'm so glad you found it. I can remember when I first found the frequency for a college I went to. We did a lot of running around outside after curfew ("covert ops" - LOL) and it was great to know what security was up to. Nowadays I'm usually on the other side of the game playing the security guard trying to outsmart the mischievious. But I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to them. I'll go ahead and submit it to the database. By the way, keep those other channels plugged into the scanner next to that one. You never know what will show up on them. They could even be used as "private" security channels or other facilities at the school (maintenance and housekeeping). And depending on what kind of scanner you have, you should also try to find out if there is a PL or DPL tone on the freq and let us know (or submit it). Adios!

runner16: the 133.275 is an AM aircraft freq, it is located on Candler's so I thought it would be a reference. There's also a bunch of paging there like 158.700. that will tell you if your radio is working, but I see you've found the correct channels.

Last I knew the Lynchburg/Amherst system was an EDACS system but not digital. I haven't been to Lynchburg in a few years so I can't say for sure.

I had the chance to meet some of the people in engineering over there at Liberty regarding some tower leasing. They were a pretty sharp crew, lots of broadcast experience, this was the group that runs the radio station. I understand their broadcast school is pretty top notch.

Good luck with school and have fun scanning!

well i have had so much fun listening to police here at liberty. Not too much craziness going on since its around the time of finals but ive gotten to hear some stuff. I am currently listening to the LUPD trying to catch 10 guys running around on campus at nearly 2 in the morning! Wish i would have found the frequency earlier in the semester. Guess that gives me something to look forward to for next semester.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Years ago I would have been one of those idiots...

I have been on both sides as well. I used to run around on campus after curfew and used FRS radios to coordinate it with my pals. Then I worked for security and also used FRS radios to catch them. I always got a chuckle out of it, because they never knew how I always knew where they were at. If you live on or close to campus FRS (and the like) can be great fun to listen to.

PS. I graduated from Cedarville University in Ohio and I will be enrolling soon to get my masters (online) from Liberty. I look forward to listening to the school when I make the 2 trips down.

I assume you mean 461.1500, as I don't see 461.5000 licensed to Liberty...?

Yes, from listening to that YouTube video, I can tell that that is definitely MOTOTRBO.
