It has come to my attention lately, and other members have pointed out, that a lot of the Texas DPS bases and repeaters broadcast the dispatch side of the conversation on every repeater (and base) that the dispatch center operates.

For more clarification, if a trooper calls dispatch, from a repeater (or calling a base), when dispatch responds, the dispatcher will broadcast over multiple sites.

It's no wonder a lot of the time we're only getting half conversations. Besides using half-duplex, the majority of the time, the conversation is probably coming from a different site than we are listening to.

It is my intention to try to list the linked sites that this occurs between. I'm not sure if it's every site the dispatcher (or dispatch center even) is responsible for, or if it is a select few in the area of responsibility.

I have pulled this information from a previous, non-related thread:

Region 1

DPS Sulphur Springs:
Base A2- Sulphur Springs
Rptr 15B- Greenville
Rptr 20- Paris
(mentioned by Boulder)

Region 2

DPS Conroe:
Base B1- Conroe
Rptr 19B- Huntsville
(mentioned by motorola_otaku)

I have found out since, that these are linked:

Region 6

DPS San Antonio:
Base B1- San Antonio
Rptr 17A- D'Hanis
Rptr 21- New Braunfels

This is the type of information I'd like to collect in the Wiki at the very least...

Am I missing something here? Isn't the database is already set up so that all the remote sites are under each comm center?

Some of these are more or less permanent links and some (at least in my observation) seem to be switched in and out as needed. That seems to be what I have seen here in the Houston area.

Well yes, but there is no indication that you may hear a dispatcher talking to unit (on, for example, main dispatch) without hearing the unit because he is on a repeater too remote for you to hear.

Based on the news referred to in this thread, this practice will become even more prevalent in the foreseeable future. I agree that this is useful information and I agree that the place it belongs is in the Wiki.

Cool.

I've added all of the information from this thread so far into some tables in the Wiki, and made a note that, the links can change at any time.

nd5y, thanks for your work in the Wiki, I used the templates of your tables to begin formatting the "Linked Sites" tables.

I'm trying to make these tables, so when newbies ask "Why can I only hear dispatch" we have something to point them to, to show, that this is why you might not be hearing more than a dispatcher.
