Ahhh, old scanners.....

Another one was "Monitoradio", then the AMECO converters, tunable and xtal-controlled, LOL! Another was Hallicrafters. I'm sure there were more.

I just went through RigPix and didn't find it -- they're mostly ham and this one had the odd receive range of 30-50 VHF Low Band. Also, I know for sure it was not Realistic. It did have a very solid metal casing, however, and was gray in color.

Pic of Patrolman Series Tuneable/Crystal

I added the pic from the catalog to my earlier post on page one. Wasn' t sure I could edit it all these hours later.
As I said, some other company might have made this for the Shack, but the pic is a scan of the 1971 Allied Radio Shack catalog.

Old receivers/scanners....

Morning Gents,

WOW! I had an old Patrolman-3. I tried lowering the frequency to catch the local 2 meter repeaters, without much success. I could hear some of the local police and fire traffic, but you had to have a real steady hand in tuning, LOL! I believe it came up "missing" after I married. :-( Long story.

I do still have an old, Hallicrafter CRX-4 "Civil Patrol" tunable (30-50 mcs) radio. The "front end" doesn't pick up much, even noise. I keep it for a conversation piece. It's real hard to find tube-type receivers that monitor the police & fire bands.

Respectfully,

I watched "Casino" with Robert DeNiro last night. There was a scene of Joe Pesci's wire taping room and there were lots of old scanners, Bearcats, Radio shacks brought back memories. My first police radio was an old FM radio from the 1940's that recived 38.20 old Paterson NJ police dispatch. And this was the 60's

My first scanner was a Regency 8 channel crystal unit. It had a red bulb for each channel to indicate the channel in use. There was also a big clunky push button for each channel to turn channels off and on.

We still use one of these at my firehouse in New York City it is located in the housewatch !!

I have a new scanner for that location but I have to run a new antenna for it.

Back in the early 80's I had a 16 channel Robyn crystal scanner, as well as several Regency Programmable base and portable rigs

It was a of a mobile style but had an ac cord as well. It had three options: X1 (crystal 1), X2 (crystal 2), and Tune. It would do 30-50 MHz. I thought Lafayette, but could never find anything that matched up. If I remember correctly, it had one dual-knob for volume/squelch, a tuning knob w/ backlit frequency (not digital), and the x1/x2/tune switch. I am guessing that it was probably manufactured in the late 70s or early 80s. I remember that it had the mobile bracket screws for mounting in a car, but we left it plugged into the wall.

From your description, I had the same radio (actually two of them, the VHF and UHF model). I bought mine directly from the Lafayette store in Pasadena, Californie on hard earned newspaper route money. :D

I had them into the early eighties, can't recall what became of them. In this pic, the label is missing and I can't recall the name of them either.

Is this the rig?

That's it! I can't believe someone actually nailed it, but I'm glad. That is exactly the one that really started out my radio hobby nearly 20 years ago. Please let me know if you do find out what model it is. I'm glad to know that it is Lafayette, though. I didn't know they made a UHF version, but I would be curious to see one.

I think my UHF rx was the micro P450. The "micro" units were newer, the "PF" models were a little older and I think might have had 1 instead of 2 xtal slots. I remembered the "micro" after thinking about it for awhile and thus did a search and found a website with some info.

It's funny how we forget about some of these vintage radios. While I had the P450 I had saved up some cash for the new Bearcat101 "crystaless" scanner. It wasn't long before I stopped tuning the P450 and used the 101 all of the time. I still have the 101 buried in the garage somewhere. :)

Here is a list of the receivers from a website that sells manuals:

LAFAYETTE MICRO P450 RECEIVER (2584)
LAFAYETTE MICRO P-50A/100A RECEIVER (2606/2612)
LAFAYETTE PB-50/PB-150 MONITOR RECEIVERS (2592/93)
LAFAYETTE PF-30 & 60 VHF FM RECEIVER (2590/91)
