Your link is not working, can you post the pics here?
I added the pic from the catalog to my earlier post on page one. Wasn' t sure I could edit it all these hours later.
As I said, some other company might have made this for the Shack, but the pic is a scan of the 1971 Allied Radio Shack catalog.
My first scanner was a Regency 8 channel crystal unit. It had a red bulb for each channel to indicate the channel in use. There was also a big clunky push button for each channel to turn channels off and on.
It was a of a mobile style but had an ac cord as well. It had three options: X1 (crystal 1), X2 (crystal 2), and Tune. It would do 30-50 MHz. I thought Lafayette, but could never find anything that matched up. If I remember correctly, it had one dual-knob for volume/squelch, a tuning knob w/ backlit frequency (not digital), and the x1/x2/tune switch. I am guessing that it was probably manufactured in the late 70s or early 80s. I remember that it had the mobile bracket screws for mounting in a car, but we left it plugged into the wall.
That's it! I can't believe someone actually nailed it, but I'm glad. That is exactly the one that really started out my radio hobby nearly 20 years ago. Please let me know if you do find out what model it is. I'm glad to know that it is Lafayette, though. I didn't know they made a UHF version, but I would be curious to see one. From your description, I had the same radio (actually two of them, the VHF and UHF model). I bought mine directly from the Lafayette store in Pasadena, Californie on hard earned newspaper route money.
I had them into the early eighties, can't recall what became of them. In this pic, the label is missing and I can't recall the name of them either.
Is this the rig?
