I just wanted to mention this. We all grudgingly agree simulcast systems can be a challenge to listen to if you don't have the most expensive scanner.
If that's the case in your neck of the woods, try forgoing programming in the simulcast sites, and just listen to MSP towers. In my neck of the woods, I'm having good success with hearing Monroe County off MSP's Flat Rock tower. And Detroit off the MSP towers in Detroit.

I am puzzled as to why all, but the most expensive scanners struggle when it comes to simulcast when you can obtain excellent performance
receiving these clusters using simple low cost SDR's with applications like OP25 and SDRTrunk.

As long as a Monroe County radio is affiliated with the Flat Rock tower, and tuned to the talkgroup you want to monitor, you will hear them fine. Until it's not, and then you don't.

And if you're trying to monitor Detroit PD, their radios are restricted to the Detroit simulcast cell.

MSP doesn't have their own towers. It's all part of the MPSCS.

A $30 SDR dongle connected to personal computer that cost how much? Yeah you probably already have a computer and use it for other things, but don’t overlook this expense.

It comes down to processing power.

I've seen previous comments regarding sdr that get rude comments on , how to learn sdr. Not every newbie is a radio tech.

Suprisingly, even when I am mobile, the Oakland County Phase 2 works very well on my Bearcat 325P2. A lot less distortion than on any Phase 1 system.

Not really. As far as receiving the simulcast signal from different directions, the sdr circuitry handles it better. The SDS series are sdr based.

Sdr is not that hard to learn. Some software is more complex than other software and it all depends on exactly what the person is looking to do. Generally, rude comments come from a few factors and a persons attitude plays a big role. When people are trying to help a user and that user gets snippy, argumentative or does not answer questions asked specifically about their intentions, **** goes down hill real fast.
