Living in China

Hi,
I am new to scanner listening and just bought a ICOM PCR 1500 wide-band receiver and also a discone antenna. I am located in Fuzhou, China Fujain province and I am not having much luck in receiving anything on my receiver. I hope someone could advise me on using my receiver or would know of active frequency's in my area. I believe I have everything is installed properly and the settings are correct. If anyone has any suggestions about my operating my receiver (since it is complicated) I would appreciate it. Also I am a American living in China so if you know of a local English broadcasting radio station please let me know. all or any information would be appreciated.

One thing to remember about being in China - You are not in the United States. The Chinese government may or may not take kindly to anyone receiving any of their transmissions and they can "forget" to knock on your door and just come right in. You may be an American, but you really don't have any of our rights in China.
