Lo Band Scanner Antenna

I'm looking to buy an NMO antenna for scanning CB traffic and highway patrol. Would an antenna like the Laird C40 tuned at 40-47 MHz still cover the CB range acceptably? This will be for Rx only.

Get one of the actual Laird wide band versions surplus on eBay, they cover something like 39-46MHz with a good match and run about $65 used. Search for "CHP antenna".

Yes, most antennas tuned for CB would work pretty bad in the 39-46Mhz range.

That's VHF-high/UHF/700/800, really far away from CB (27 MHz) and CHP (VHF-low; 39–45 MHz).

I should have explained myself more elaborately. When I use a CB in my vehicle, I use a mag mount antenna dedicated for that frequency. For best results, the OP should get a dedicated antenna for each radio. You also didn't mention if he wanted a mobile fixed, mag mount or base antenna. For a multi-band mobile antenna, when nothing else easily available, I have used the Laird WPD136M6C-001 for everything non-HF with very good results. It's my one size fits all antenna. I have 25-1300 mag antenna that works good also. For home, I get great results from a discone at 30' for many radios. I also have a 17' CB antenna but the discone works better. Also, prcguy really knows his stuff. As always, YMMV
