Back in the day, it was important to load analog freqs into my BC-250 in numerical order for the most efficient scanning. I've followed that with subsequent scanners. Well, how about now in this digital trunked world? Is it still important for the trunked stuff?

With my latest scanner, PRO-197, the RS store gave me an initial load of freqs, conventional and Moto800/900. The store is not real close to my home, so I imported the programming from my PRO-2096 into other lists to fill in the blanks. I've also downloaded from the RR database. So, I've got a mixed bunch of CC's and alternate CC's spread over several lists. Should I resequence the CC's, and if so, how, other than deleting and re-entering manually?

What kind of system are you doing? I know that with an EDACS the freqs. have to be in exact order. The 106 (I have the GRE PSR 500) is pretty confusing the way it does Object Numbers. The best thing to do is ignore any way of getting those in order. Also, with a LTR system the scanner will automaticly set the correct order of the freqs.

I could be wrong, but from what I see in the Database you would just enter the Control freqs. (red & green) on the sites that are near you (I do 25 mile radius).
You probably paid WAY LESS than the $500 I paid, but I have been in the hobby off & on for about 30 years and these new scanners are awesome. If you haven't already, check out the Win500 software. It is free to try and really worth the small cost to keep.
Good Luck & Happy New Year.

Yes, Eyes, You are not wrong. On the digital, trunked, only need to enter the Control channels and the alternate Control channels. That is what I have a bunch of in several scan lists. My question had to do with the efficiency/speed of scanning those frequencies and whether the efficiency/speed is improved if the frequencies are in numerical order. "rdale" says no.

When I got my first programmable scanner in '79, a Bearcat 250, the freqs were all analog and the scan speed could be optimized if the freqs were in order, especially grouping the different bands. I didn't worry about that in prior years when I had a crystal controlled scanner.

When I got my digital scanners, PRO-96 and PRO-2096, I followed that scheme on analog freqs but not on the digitals. I now have a PRO-106 and a PRO-197. I use Win96 and Win500 to program my digital scanners.

I'm surprised no one else has popped in here. I'm almost done with a long 11 hour shift, so I'll close with this thought: I'm thinking the only thing that would slow the scanner from one CC to another is the actual amount of freqs. entered. I'll be back tomorrow.
