HP-2: Locked?

I use sentinel to program my scanner it works fine. I can't get this unit to unlock so I can make any of the subjects [menu replay record mute] useful. in other words when you touch any of the subjects nothing happens. I can unlocked it by touching unlock though. also when I highlight yellow channel and hit it won't go back to normal scanning. Only is to tap under the yellow at the bottom of the screen. It acts like the sensor board has slipped or has went haywire. Thought about taking apart but that might be a big mistake. My HPI works fine. Any ideas?

They are not. Question is why can't I use the bottom 4 subjects on the screen by touching them. I can't get into the menun replay recordn muten and few quirks on the screen.

The touch screens on these are actually recessed, leaving a small gap between the case and the screen; sometimes a bit of lint, or even a gnat can get stuck down in between the screen and case. You can take a wooden toothpick and a wipe similar to clean eyeglass lenses and gently run across the slot (may need to have it upside down or on its side so if something is lodged it will fall out). I've had a gnat get down in there in the one in my truck and made the screen not work on the bottom icons.
Oh, and yeah it can make it seem like a button is "stuck" making other icons non responsive also...

Still the lower subjects will not react when tapped.

That is why I think the screen may need to be recalibrated. This may be of assistance: home patrol 2 screen nonresponsive

My HP-2 was doing that too... You could lock or unlock the screen but not access the bottom row, it was hit or miss...
A screen calibration fixed it...
If you have a nylon stylus to do it rather than your finger, it's more accurate...

Did you tap the UNLOCK when it is shown or did you let it time out and revert to locked?

FWIW - there is a menu that one can access that shows several service items. Only thing, I forget how to access.

That's how I calibrated my screen... Thru the test menu...

Press and hold the Volume up Button and the Power Buttun at the same time till the screen comes on...
Then release those two and press and hold the Volume Down Button... And the test menu will appear...

Tried the calibration screen, one circle on upper right corner came up and tapped it and it changed to yellow circle then a circle on the btm lh corner came up but you can't get it to change to anything even with a nylon stylus. I believe the best bet would to send it in for repair. Had already disassembled to the screen and clean with alcohol so it is clean. Only way to shut the screen off now is to shut it off.

Sounds like a touchscreen issue - AKA repair.
