Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows of some good quality logging free software? I have used Shortwave log for awhile and while its logging features are great it can be really hard on system resources for me. Seems like the more logs I enter the more ram it eats up. I have a gig of ram and it can use it all in around 5 minutes of browsing logs and such. I use RxPlus and Scan320 with my RX320D and would just like to know if anyone knows of a full featured less recourse hungry logging program.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply. I actually went through every one of those and found none that have the features of SWLog. Guess I need to either get used to rxplus logging or buy more ram.

I was hoping maybe there was a small program out there someone here uses that is great. Well anyway, thanks again for the reply!

Corbin what in the world are you searching that takes up that much space?? I could see audio files consuming disk space, certainly - but I've been a user of Scan320 since its inception, and never run out of RAM or space. I don't even use a big machine - it's a pokey old 500 Mhz Celeron running 98SE. I could perhaps see some big logs if I were doing constant searches, but I generally don't do complete band scans. I only search portions of bands, and only those likely to be open to my area at the time. That's understanding what propagation may or may not be doing during that time period.

Lol, it does sound like alot don't it. If I use SWLog to control the radio, search through some logs from ioc and personal logs in around 5 mins it will use up my gig of ram. Let me give a example:

1 gig of ram amd 3000+ running stock:

SQL, audio driver, ati driver and blah windows stuff after fresh boot 530 megs free (XP home)

fresh launch of software (SWLog) takes me down to 480 free (no biggie).
Open database 350 free
open ioc 200 free
open control software 180 free
tune radio via log fast 80 free
launch FF and browse these forums while listening 30 or so free. Open task manager while all this is running and SWLog is eating a whooping 580 megs of ram! Not even including SQL and such that SWLog requires. SWLog is a great program with great features but this is my main system and would like run to do other things while using the program.

I wish it was easier on resources for sure!

Thanks for the reply!

Hmm, sounds like a 2nd machine - even a laptop - might be in order here. You could save resources while getting on IOC and browsing forums, which would save a considerable amount. While RXPlus and others probably don't take up nearly that much, they don't do the same things, either. You have Ergo, DXtra and the Callsign software, all of which have their supporters. But they aren't freeware, like SWLog is.

Or you can get more RAM, as you suggested. Still that does seem like an awful lot.

Thanks es 73s Mike

I'll have to look at mine, I run SWLog and windowsXP on a Sony, P4 1.4 gig, with 1gb RAM like you have. It is slow sometimes but not as bad as what yours sounds like. I run radio control on my IC746 and R75 while the logger is open.

My only problem is when I record audio in .aac format, it disappears and can't be found. mp3 works ok but that isn't the default.
