Congrats! I just happened to read thru this thread and your post in the Uniden forums. I live in Portland but I often travel down to Salem and was just down there last weekend. I had no issues on my SDS100 with any of the frequencies around there. I had Oregon P25, Marion County and Salem trunked system on. In fact I was able to hear a couple Portland systems still.

Not sure what scanners you've used before but the SDS can be a different beast especially if you've been out of the game a while.

If I could offer my 2 cents I wouldn't worry about the NXDN or DMR upgrades yet unless you enjoy listening to business. The TRBOWEST system is there in town and it's not listed yet but the Silke NXDN system is also there. I have the frequencies but still working out site locations before I submit it.

Oh, awesome it's so great being able to hear from someone in my area... I kinda want NXDN for Woodburn & Hubbard PD but that's it.

Also, do you use any special type of antenna in Oregon at all to help with anything?

I was also nervous about hearing rumors the UHF & VHF analog was pretty bad on the 100, But if you hear Salem and Marion county sheriffs fine.........Great news

Wheels1911, How's the SDS100 working so far? I have a Uniden 996p2 and create/download directly from radio ref database. After that, I can adjust function keys for different systems, geography and/or agency types.

Im not sure, its being shipped to me still. Havnt gotten it yet

A few years ago I picked up a BNC 800 MHz antenna at RadioShack on the suggestion of a forum somewhere. I swapped it from my 396xt when I got the SDS. Still works great.

Do you think I would need anything like that here in Marion County where Im at? Since nothing is really 800 yet besides like what Salem fire and Keizer I think.

I received the scanner. Have my favorite list all set up, but I have a few issues.

I cant hear Keizer PD at all?

I cant hear Albany PD at all? (I don't think im too far) only 20.99 miles...... However, I do hear Oregon State Police in Albany.

I cant hear Monmouth PD or Dallas PD?(27.49 miles to dallas) and (22.36 Miles to Monmouth)

And Salem FIRE, Marion County FIRE are extremely scratchy, and I dont understand since they are very close to me

I also see it seems to want to focus on P25 freq....but I want my main to be Salem PD... How do I make Salem PD my most important?

These ones you say you can’t hear, this could be a few things. How do you have it programmed? Did you just enter zip code and run with it or did you actually create favorite lists?

Maybe a different antenna for the scratchiness? I didn’t have any issues with that, I was near the airport.

I’m not sure what you mean by most important, how have you achieved that on previous scanners? Depending on how you’re listening to them (conventional vs analog trunked vs p25) you could increase the hold time.

Okay. So I figured out priority, So im all good there.

Also, I added my favorites list from the sentinal software. That part was pretty easy.

1. I can see Keizer PD F1 in my favorites list but I still cant hear them, like at all. TGID 57840

2. What is the difference between Salem PD "Police - Ch 1 Simplex" and "Police - Main Dispatch".....They are both Dispatch channels apparently, so what one should I scan?

3. Still can not hear Albany, Dallas, Monmouth at all.

4. It also makes not since how Marion County sheriffs office channle 3 is clear as day, but Marion County FIRE dispatch is very scratchy, they come from the same place WVCC, in salem?

Are you doing location scanning?
If yes what is the range setting?
Are you sure the Agency you want to hear is being transmitted on the site that you can hear?
Have you drove toward the Agency and tower site you wish to hear?
If not that would be a good test as not all Agencies are transmitted on all sites.

1. Keizer - try their talkgroup on the state system. I see they don’t have a conventional frequency like Salem does so I’m not sure exactly what they use.

2. Salem PD - the way those are listed in the database it won’t matter. You’ll hear the same traffic on both channels. They’re listed in the database how they’re programmed into the actual PD radios.

3. In the case of Albany, they’re using the Linn County P25 system patched to the state P25. You could try the Wipper Hill tower site if you haven’t already. The way the system is designed you’ll hear OSP on out of the area towers much more than you will county or local agencies. If an Albany trooper happens to be in Salem you’ll hear the Albany talkgroup. The only local agency that truly uses the state system is Deschutes County. All the rest are just patches and they very rarely if ever are available on towers outside the immediate area.

Monmouth and Dallas I can only speculate as I don’t recall a time I’ve actually listened to them, not that I’ve actively attempted to. Try 155.95 for Monmouth, it looks like the database may be wrong as the listed freq isn’t licensed to anybody near Polk County and the license indicated has 155.95 listed. I can’t find much for Dallas. Are they by chance dispatched by Polk County Sheriff?

4. Just because the person talking on the radio is at WVCC that does not mean the signal you’re hearing is coming from there. In fact with such disparate frequencies between fire and pd its nearly guaranteed you’ll have a difference in signal quality let alone if they use different towers.

Only suggestion I can make at the moment is trying other antennas or locations. With systems such as what you’re listening to it’s likely not you or the scanner. In the next couple years they’ll likely be using completely different frequencies and systems.

No, I have not drove twords them, However, I do know they are talking because they have a Live feed.

and what do you mean by Location scanning? you talking about zip code? I used the software to program so...

Already looked into that... Its just OSP (Oregon State Police).

I know this because Keizer has a live feed on broadcastify. They also use a freq and a Talk group so im kind of confused by that 857.48750 TG 57840 but the frequancy is on the 930 chemawa channel? idk very confusing

I've also noticed that pretty much everything on the State system of "Oregon State Radio Project " Seems to all be OSP, at least in the Marion County area... Like I can Hear OSP in Mcminnville, but I cant hear Mcminnville PD, wierd right?

............................................

3. In the case of Albany, they’re using the Linn County P25 system patched to the state P25. You could try the Wipper Hill tower site if you haven’t already. I might have confused you on this question. I don't want hear OSP in the albany area........ I want to Hear The Albany Police Department. It says that they use the SW 7 County Interoperable Public Safety Radio Partnership, Project 25 Phase I

I have that Programed into the SDS100 I can see it on the Sentinel program. But once the radio is on it disappears. Like it's not even on the radio.

Not all sites carry the Agencies. You may need an outside antenna to pick up the site that carries that Agency.
Do you live in this red circle? https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?siteId=19021

2 out of the 4 yes.

But it's only like 22 miles way. does it really not travel that far?

20 miles from a tower site on a rubber duck antenna inside anything is stretching the limits of 2way radios.
TV or FM radio station towers are often 100,000 watts of power at 800 to 1100 feet
Indoor TV antennas are at best 30 to 40 miles.
Police radios are at best 100 watts of power at 300 feet

Im sorry the questions never stop.

Now im trying to figure out how to scan the Salem Hospital security radios.

Marion County - Businesses Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

when looking at that is shows 453.65000 as the frequency

It looks good right. Nope

Now look at this WPXB828 (SALEM HOSPTIAL) FCC Callsign Details

453.65000 doesn't exist...

I've decided to program 6 frequencies in to try and find the correct one.

Been scanning for like a long time. Haven't heard anything, anyone got any ideas

Salem hospital security is 463.6500 not 453.6500. The database is wrong. I'll submit an update.
