I need some expert advise. I am looking for a directional antenna that will pick up this system: Arkansas Wireless Information Network (AWIN) Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies But the tower I am trying to recieve is at an approzimate distance of 45 1/2 miles away to my West. I had one of thse before:
Wilson 301111 YAGI CEL Cell Phone Antenna - High Gain | RepeaterStore and it worked decent at night I was getting around a 40 to 50 percent signal, However during the day i couldn't get a thing on it, It finally broke during a wind storm one day, I am ready to replace it, However I wonder if someone can tell me if there is an antenna better than the one I have listed above that will work for a system 45 miles away. I don't need to hear it great, Just decent enough to decode the digital to where it's understandable. Anyone got any suggestions/ideas/comments? Please Share, Thank You..

You might look at this one ...You are going to need some gain, this ones claiming 22 dbi , the Wilson is claimed to be 14. Keep in mind that high quality feedline, kept as short as possible will benefit you by not throwing away that gain.. Also, you need to consider what other 800 Mhz signals may be in the same direction, you may experience front end overload. As you probably have seen, the stated AWIN coverage range is 30 miles, so you 'll be on the fringe. Good luck!

I had the 14 DB gain one listed above with 75 FT of of cabling before and could lock in anywhere from 60-80 % at night... I'm not sure how much better I can get but I'll look into this one for sure..

One other thing to keep in mind - I'm not sure what the horizontal beam width was on the Wilson, but on this one, it's 18 degrees, so aiming it at a site 45 miles away is going to be a little bit of an exercise. I'm sure you aren't the only one looking at doing this, why not post your results, if you move ahead??
