My Firewall or something seems to have misplaced the path to my scanner control software, ARC, Butel etc.
When I click on the shortcut to one of the scanner software programs, I get an error message "The network resource you are trying to access is unavailable, try a different path"

If I hit the cancel button or the close X at the upper right corner, it keeps trying, until finally, the software starts.

Any ideas on how to fix this???

Hi Dave,

You may have to post a little more information on where your program you're trying to run is located on your system, such as is it on your local drive in your PC or on a shared network drive. Have you recently added or changed your firewall or antivirus software?

Can you run the program by finding the .exe file in the folder for it and running it from there instead of from a shortcut?

Maybe also post what operating system you're using (Vista, XP, etc.). I use Vista on my main PC now and it can be a pain to say the least.

Post a little more info and someone will help you out.

Rob, thanks for the post. The same thing happens when I try to open directly from the .exe file. The software is on the local drive. I am using the XP OS. I have looked at my firewall and virus protection and don't see where it's blocked.

It's really mysterious how the software is finally found after I've tried to close or cancel the error message boxes several times.

It makes no difference if I'm connected to the internet or not.

I appreciate your input.

That is strange, Dave. Assuming you are connecting to the radio via a cable using a USB port, have you tried a different USB port? I don't use either the ARC or Butel software so I'm not familiar with either of them and a good path via the cable between the PC and radio may not be required for the software to run, but the error message looks like it's trying to find a resource it's not finding so my first thought is something like that if those are the only programs that don't open correctly on your PC. I don't understand why it will eventually work unless it is retrying each time to establish the needed path through the port and eventually that resource becomes available. Might not even be close, but might try a different port or cable to eliminate that if you have not.

Lost Path

No remote locations and never opened anything on the internet with them. I really don't think the cable or USB port is the problem, but I will try your suggestions just to be sure.

I'm really thinking that a new registry cleaner I intalled shortly before the problems started may be the culprit, it may possible erase part of the path. When I have time I'm going to look into that.

Thanks again for the help.

Anything from a card reader or flash drive?

Nothing else but your scanner programing software will error like this?

Exactly which version of what pieces of software are you running?

Browsing around through the registry on my ARC15 install I see atleast 3 different paths. One of mine is network because it is the last profile I had opened. A flash drive, network drive, or something that caused your drive letters to change I would like to think would be the source of the problem. I would think that if the registry cleaner had done so that you would notice a problem with other programs.

If you are comfortable with regedit, check under (for example) HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Butel\ARC15\settings
Obviously the ARC15 key will change with whatever version you are using

Check and see what all your paths show to see if any look invalid.
