I noticed this week Loudoun has paired Sterling with Roundhill and Dulles with Brambleton much like Fairfax. Wonder if this is permanant?

Could be because of dispatcher shortage. I know down here in Chesapeake, Chesapeake PD patches all 3 of their dispatch channels at night and then leaves a patch on 2 of them all the time. Same thing with the DoD 14C system on the security side, numerous base Security dispatches are patched 24/7

Most comm centers are struggling with recruitment and retention, and working with very low numbers - which I agree is the most likely cause.

Round Hill and Brambleton have never been independent dispatch channels. There have never been more than two dispatchers.

Today I confirmed that the pairing of talkgroups is permanent and is following the Fairfax County PD model. So, the new pairing goes like this:

talkgroup 2801 - is Eastern station (also known as Sterling)
talkgroup 2813 - is Western station (also known as Round Hill)

These two talkgroups will be routinely patched together. If traffic is held on one of them the patch will be dropped so deputies can continue to use the other talkgroup.

talkgroup 2805 - is marked as Dulles (it is being used by deputies at the Ashburn station)
talkgroup 2809 - is marked as Brambleton (it is being used by deputies at the Dulles South station)

These two talkgroups will be routinely patched together following the same protocol as written above.
