Not to long ago I bought a PRO 2055 . About 2 weeks after having it the screen went out .
I had read about this problem @ RR. so it wasnt to much of shock when it happend . Radio Shack replaced it with a used one a first , until I *****ed and got a new one . All has been well after that.

Till this week when I decided to boost my range with the , RS 20-176 .
I put about 20 ft off the ground used recomended RG -58 and hooked it up to my beloved scanner.

Well what would you know , Strike two for the PRO 2055 with or with out using the ATT It pulled in less than the stock antenna did . Thinking maybe there might be a installation problem on my part . I hooked up my cheap BC 350 C ,and guess what it would pick up frequencies 30 + miles away. I love the PRO 2055 's features , but the qurks are getting to me.

PS, Here I come Bearcat !

Overloaded?

When you connected your antenna, you probably overloaded the front end of the 2055, something this receiver is known for. I solved that problem on mine by installing an attenuator inline with the antenna. Actually, it is an FM Trap, but it serves the same purpose. You may also want to use the "global" setting on the attenuator on the 2055. that would probably help solve the problem as well.

Had similar problems years ago, make sure you have continuity from the ground ON the radio to the ground ON the antenna or you will have.....not much in the way of reception. Soon as my groud got corrected I picked up things from a 15' high antenna on 46 mhz that I'd never dreamed of receiving....basically every comm in the entire county (balto county).

The center connector on the antenna wire should connect to a center pin or whatever on the antenna and a center female "pin" (for lack of a better word) on the radio. The outer metal, the part that you can usually grip at both ends of the wire needs to be connected to the mesh braid on the outside of the antenna wire and should be connected in a way that it makes a good connection at both ends; the middle wire and the outer braid (the grounded part) shouldn't touch or you will be reducing your signal to nothing. If you don't have a ground the electrical properties of the antenna aren't conducive to good reception. I'm no antenna guy, I'm trying to tell you what I know and have had trouble with for years and then the wonderful magic fix. Others may want to better explain or elaborate.

Would you tell me which trap you used and where you bought it? I would love to try that on my 2055. It's a super trunker, but regular FM, as somebody said, overloads the front-end with anything but a unity gain antenna.

Thanks!!

That is why I am fading away from Radio Shack. The Pro92 is still working had it the first day it came out I had the 2067 lasted about 3 yrs. The screen went out on that and wouldn't RX nothing at all.

Notch Filter sources

Thanks for the info on the HPN-30118. Unfortunately, ScannerMaster has it OUT OF STOCK.

Do you happen to know of any other sources for it? If not, I'll start looking.

Thanks again.
