Been playing with my Pro-96 again today.. Man this thing rocks... Digital is a whole new world to me, but I can see it's pretty cool how the scanner can decode it. I'm using a RadioShack 800Mhz antenna on it, and Kentucky State Police's UHF P25 system BOOMS in on it. But I guess, they should, considering how much they rumored to have spent on the system.

I'm going to give it a real workout this weekend, when I head to Irvine tonight. I'm gonna throw a Motorola Type II system and an EDACS system at it, along with KSP as well and see how it fairs out.

I'm sure I'll be nothing short of impressed by it. I've owned many scanners, but I must admit, this one rivals my old Pro-97 in performance. I never thought I'd own another scanner that recieved like it did.. I think we have another winner!

Though it IS used, and I'm the 3rd owner of this scanner, it's been pretty well cared for. It does have some small scratches on it, but hey, it's a scanner.

I love my Pro-96... I dont think I'll be letting this one go at all!

Yes I have been really pleased with my 2096's and 96 also. They do a good job with the Ohio MARCS system here which is what they are mainly used for. I hope you are planning on Win96 for your future use for if you are like me I am always changing something and I am just to lazy to do it by hand.

I downloaded Win96 before I even got the scanner. Hahaha... I done had everything programmed up, and refined just the way I wanted it, that way when the scanner came, all I had to do was pop in some rechargeables, which I had already bought and charged, just for the 96, and program it!

I was chompin' at the bit for this thing.. and it was well worth the wait!

Anyone who has the fundage, I highly reccomend picking one up!

Congrats!

Welcome to (now imagine this with echo) "Digital Trunking"! You will be very pleased with this radio. Get yourself a case, and no one will know it's used. It'll keep it nice looking, and offer additional protection. If you haven't done so already, you may want to download the latest firmware for it from Radio Shack. (DSP 1.4, I believe) Good luck, and enjoy your new rig!

The firmware that's in it works really well actually... I think I'll just leave it at what it is, unless the 1.4 has some advantages the current setup don't... It has 1.4 CPU 1.3 DSP App and 1.0 DSP Voc.. Whatever all that means.. So I guess it done has 1.4? LOL

The 1.4 CPU is the version in my 96 and the 1.3 DSP was the last version upgrade. To be honest I never could tell any difference between the 1.2, 1.3 and the current upgrade of 1.4 DSP with the Ohio MARCS system. I guessed that you were prepared in advance for your new toy. Have fun..

DSP App U1.4 Upgrade

Radio Shack put out this upgrade because some users reported problems with the digital signals not decoding correctly. I personnally haven't had any problems with any of the upgrades and I just do it to say "I have the most updated". You know what "they" say, "If it aint broke, don't fix it!" FYI. Here's the link.

Yeah I was very prepared for it. I knew I had to have Win96. Win97 spoiled me with my Pro-2055 and my old 97.

It sure made programming a breeze.

Pro 96 can listen encrypt frequencies in p25????
Encryption and digital are not the same thing. Just because something is encoded in P25 digital voice does not mean it is encrypted. You can not listen to encrypted transmissions, analog or digital voice, because they are encrypted. That's the point. Encryption is expensive, and there's no way that you're going to be able to drop $400 at RS and be able to listen to it. Doesn't work like that.
