I managed to get ahold of my friends PSR800 scanner yesterday .. and well after some hesitation in the past re the user interface I have to say that I just LOVE this scanner. I am a PSR500 user now and I wish that my scanner had the record feature. It is the best feature of the PSR800 in my opinion.

But I have one question .. was there ever any consideration to having a RECORD button on the front of the scanner rather than forcing the user to go to the menu and to the talkgroup.

For example .. I would prompt the user to toggle the record on/off when they push a record button. It would make recording so much faster ... than having to go to the menu.

Anyone have any thoughts ... or maybe this is something that they can add to the PSR900 (hoping for a model like the PSR500 with SD card and record feature added - dreaming here).

I think that this would be a excellent idea. I'm wondering if GRE could update the scanner through the software to maybe enable a quick tap of the power button to employ a "instant record' type feature. I would have to agree, a independent "record now" button would be huge.

FANTASTIC Idea!

I justified the purchase of my PSR800 because of the record feature.

A one-button record function would be the best!!!

It's a shame GRE didn't split the large "SKIP" button into two buttons and use that second button for the Record function. I am getting around that limitation by using the classic "brute force" approach. I'm using a Transcend 16GB microSD card and have a couple of entire scanlists set to record. I should be good for 400 hours of recordings.

Oh, and when it comes to recording, as good as the PSR-800 is, I have to award first place to Uniden's Home Patrol. Why? Because the HP-1 does a screen capture along with the audio. You see and hear it all. Really sweet, in my opinion.

The psr-800 really does need a dedicated record button. Would make recording a talk group easier when there is a quickly developing situation. Rather than having to go through menus to activate the recording feature

Well, the 800 captures most of the info you could want with each recording instance. Yeah, you'll have to listen to the recordings with your computer to 'see' the info but still.

Here's another idea, how about making the Play/Pause button enable the recording feature on an active channel when you press and hold it for 3 or more seconds?

That Play/Pause idea would work for me as a push and hold feature. I'm very interested in the PSR 800 but have held off buying one as I'd like a more postive quick start recording feature.

I just let mine record everything, every time. Then I can review what I want, keep want I want, and then delete the rest. This way I'm guaranteed I don't miss anything. Personally I'd rather have it recording all the time then have to hit a button to record something of interest.

Is there enough memory to record all audio in a busy environment overnight? What is the size of the included memory? Can it be increased?

The memory is only limited to the size of the memory card you use. I think someone said earlier in this thread or another that they have a 16GB card that'll give them about 400 hrs of recording. I'm not sure how big of a card you can use but I'm sure it can go even bigger than a 16GB one.

I know that a ham / scanner guy in my province is using a 32 GB card, and I recall reading that 32 GB is the largest size card that the radio will accept.

Thanks

The supplied card is I believe a 2 GB card, which will give you maybe 50 hours of audio recording.

I think that the record feature is the best feature of the PSR800 and I would hope that GRE adds the SD Card and record feature to all their upcoming models.
