Those dual band white "pancake" looking things? Are they any good? I'm looking to help the reception of a bc296 and 996 in my new 05 4runner. i'll have a roof rack at times so i was looking for something a little smaller. If they are that good, any ideas? or is a antenna coupler on one antenna going to help or hurt the issue? Thanks in advance.

I have just ordered the pmm3b antenna from universal electronics. It has recieved really good reviews here on radioreference. It is about 13 inches tall with a strong mag mount, black in color.

I use the maxrad 800mhz antenna. Small low profile black. Here is there website. http://www.maxrad.com/product_overview_detail.cgi?id_num=10621&styleid=8
Those antennas you can get black as well. Now they don't rx the greatest on vhf casue they way there are tuned but they work great on 800mhz and you can get a rack mount for the top of your car and work great the antennas work great. I can here system over 35miles away. So check them out.

Most of those "low profile" or "pancake" style antennas are tuned for just one frequency band. They will work okay on that band, but not so good on other bands.

"Low profile" + "wide band" are two terms not very compatable with each other.

Yes, the Larsen 150/450/800, is a excellent antenna and about 17 inches tall. I have two of them on my truck and am very happy with them for their size.

It is the 16th item down the page, and you have to order the mount separately. If you live near an HRO, they have them in stock usually. Good luck.

Considering ordering that NMO Larsen antenna... Looks like a winner. Especially for police scanning.

i am worried about the antenna not having the coil or spring at the bottom. It this really an issue of antenna breakage? and this may be a new thread subject, but those strisberg multicouplers? are they hype or worth the investment. my thoughts are to use one on a receiving ant, and then another ant for CB exclusively. Ideas?

Just bought the Larsen NMO 150/450/800 antenna. Highly recommended! Works great on 150 and 800. Don't know about 450-don't monitor anything there.

works just well on UHF , I have one of those AND the NMO Maxrad "low profile" tee'ed ino a 2096 , three - four county range on any given day....I do have a GRE preamp on this also. But just the same I did some testing on the one you mentioned (I have the BMX model) and I got GREAT reults all the way around VHF-UHF and 800mhz - all good RX. :)
