Which low profile or stubby UHF antenna with gain would anyone suggest for a VX177 ham HT?
My unit is on its way however I do not know if the stock antenna would be good enough.
Thanks

The stock antenna on that radio should work fine! It's not like a wide-band scanner. The supplied antenna is exactly for that band. Anything shorter will probably be a compromise in performance.

For a better antenna with the flexible convienence of a ducky but with more gain and better performance, try a Pryme RD-98. Available at Ham Radio Outlet or other ham stores. This is a BNC type. For SMA connectors, they have the same thing and is a RD-98SMA. Under $25. Work great.
