Re: Lowndes Feed

I was wondering the same about the Lowndes feed. I do the Cook feed, and listened to Lowndes quite a bit.

Yep. Last time it was down for several days then came back. I would appreciate input from whoever was doing it as far as if it will come back or not. I'd be willing to do it if I had a scanner.

But I'd like to know for sure before I spend that kind of money on one. ;)

Well, its been deleted now. Looks like it's gone for good. Guess I'll have to save my money and get one to get it back online.

If anyone can give me some suggestions for a digital scanner that I can use to set up a feed for Lowndes County.... I would love to find one used. Anyone have an idea where I should look first?

Re: Lowndes Feed

I would use a Pro 106 or 197 for it. If you want, I can send you my scanner config file so you can easily load it. But a free trial of software comes with purchase. Radio Shack in the Valdosta Mall has these on hand

If you choose to provide the feed I request you not scan VSU police, all the good traffic from LCSO and VPD is covered much of the time with VSU officers telling dispatch about parking problems and locking up buildings...rather boring.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing!

Well, I'm going to check around and see if I can find one...I see that the one at RadioShack is on sale online only. Darn that car payment, or I'd already have one!

Haha, yeah they are a bit pricey. I would not suggest the online ship to store with the one in the mall...i would just go pick it up. I would also scan the EMS Dispatch channel and fire dispatch channel

I can tell you that some used PRO-197s recently sold on ebay for between $232 and $305. ScannerMaster.com has new ones listed for $399 I believe.

Honestly EMS and Fire is very boring. Fire ties up everything else talking about switching engines, moving equipment, "engine 1 is out at the gas pumps" stuff like that.
If anything good happens like a major wreck, shooting, assault, large fire...its always on the PD or LCSO talk group anyways.

Thanks for all the comments. As soon as I save enough money to buy one, I'll work to get the feed online.

Re: Lowndes Feed

I use Pro 106 handheld in my car for digital. Programming is fairly easy with the ARC500 software and RR downloads

Update

Rumor has it, and I have heard from a couple of sources, that the reason the Lowndes feed is gone is because "certain people" in public safety didn't like the fact that people could monitor on their cell phones and "suggested" that they remove it.

Forget the fact that people can buy a scanner and do the same thing. :-O I guess their theory is that crooks will now have to spend a few hundred dollars to do the same thing.

O well....still trying to save the money to buy one.

It isn't a crime to have that feed though, so it doesn't matter if they don't like it or not. And you are right, all criminals will do now is save up 299 or 399 and buy and program the scanner themselves. Hope to see the feed back soon!

Hello all,

I may have found a scanner that I can use...a Pro-106. Can anyone give me some suggestions on how I would program it for Lowndes County? I guess I would need a cable?

Thanks
Bill

I have a Uniden BCD996XT scanner to supply the feed for Lowndes County, GA but I'm still trying to get it programmed for this area. I think it's all programmed but I can't hear anything on it. Any suggestions?

I cant hear anything on the online feed.

Also, the scanner says its set to monitor WAY TO MANY talk groups to ever hear any action. Just by monitoring VSU police you will clog the online feed with student workers doing "door checks" and parking violations and miss all the shootings, chases, hot calls, fires, etc on the police and sheriff talk groups.

Same goes for EMS, they will clog the feed.

All the juicy stuff comes over police and sheriff and sometimes fire talk groups.

What finally worked for me was to enter ALL of the System Frequencies and not just the control channel. After I uploaded with WIN500 it worked great. Don't know if that will help you or not.
