Lucas County P-25 TRS

The city of Toledo, and Lucas County, have officially applied to the FCC to install and implement a 12-site, Project 25 Simulcast TRS. The system is expected to be fully constructed and operational by March 30, 2007. The new TRS will use the following frequencies, which will be fully compliant with the Nextel rebanding project now underway:

Same Toledo frequencies, plus four additional . . .

Pending file numbers 0002631018, 0002631498, 0002631521 for "LUCAS
COUNTY SHERIFF" and 0002631497, 0002631522 for "TOLEDO, CITY OF" went up on the FCC site today for the future Lucas County system.

Lucas County has the following additional four voice trunking channels
(852.1125, 852.2125, 853.1625, 855.1125 as previously reserved by the
WQDF924 callsign) expanded out to all county sites, plus fifteen
existing City of Toledo system frequencies. Lucas County also has the
ITAC3, 4 and 5 (conventional mutual aid) frequencies for Repeater use
pending.

Pending tower sites include the following:

So does this mean the old Toledo freqs will be converted to digital when the process is completed?Is this part of the rebanding? I thought that rebanding required freq cahnges or does converting to digital solve this?

1) Frequencies are not "digital" or "analog" - they are just frequencies. They don't care whether the signal is analog or digital.

2) Not sure what you mean? The new system is not required because of rebanding - they wanted a countywide system.

3) Converting to digital has no relation to rebanding.

Most likely they will use it in the same way they currently use Fire Ch. 2 and the Med Tac channels on the Toledo TRS.

I doubt they could abandon the UHF Med Channels even if they wanted to due to regional patching & private ambulance companies that will not have access to the new County TRS.

Latest news from the FD side of this system

Radio orders from individual jurisdictions are to be placed in Sept. and the system is supposed to be up and running sometime next year.

FD's on UHF are being told they can and should keep their current frequency for paging, everything else will be on the TRS. Not sure about VHF but they could possibly be moving to the newly licensed 157.450 freq.

Radios (at least for my department) will have talkgroups for this system and some for Monroe County, probably as a benefit of the MPSCS transmitter going up at 18's engine house.

No news yet on the number of TGs for common usage and each individual jurisdiction or how they will be assigned, etc.

We were told we would not need a dual head radio for our squad because EMS and hospital communications will still occur on the UHF Med Channels.

The bottom line is we are being told that we should get on board now or it will be alot more expensive to do so in the future. The next 12 months should be pretty interesting.
