Hi,

I was driving home from school yesterday and spotted three Maple Grove police cars with a pulled vehicle on the side of 169. I am wondering a few things since I am new to the ARMER system and am still trying to figure it out:

- If the three police cars wanted to talk to each other, they have to switch their radios to the car to car TG right?

- Who do they report to when they are pulling someone over or giving license plate info? HCSO? Is this the same TG that they are dispatched on?

Any help would be great! Thanks!

If officers want to talk directly to each other, they would use their car to car channel.(Maple Grove's is TG 10510) Also, many cities also provide their officers with Nextel phones so they could talk to each other that way too.

HCSO has a records channel (TG 10014) that they use for DL/plate checks, confirming warrants, and obtaining other info. Much of this can also be done on their in car computer without using the radio.

I dont hear officers call in traffic stops on the dispatch channel very often, but once in a while they do. I think they usually just enter them on their computer, so if they just make a stop for a simple traffic violation, they will likely not even pick up the radio. When they do call in a traffic stop on the air, this is what you would hear:

Officer: " (unit #) traffic "

Dispatch: " (unit #) "

Officer: " (license plate #) , (location of stop) "

The officer may also report other information like "Possible DUI" or "suspect vehicle from ___________"

Raven,

You cleared up a lot of questions in my head. I didn't realize they used the computers like that so frequently. I thought they used them just to look up information and not post their location.
