• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does anyone on the board have the ability to program a maratrac with siren? I know these are going to be obsolete, but I have a siren kit NIB and would like to find a low band vhf to listen to local highway patrol and also use the siren function.

the maratrac siren set up does not need any programming. it just hooks up to the radio. the siren can be used on its own and i have seen info on this at batboard.batlabs.com. i currently have one attached to a vhf hi maratrac in my van.

Is there even any NCSHP lowband traffic in your part of the state? Surely around Charlotte-Meck they have gone to VIPER

Yea sorry i meant to say siren amps. Can anyone out there still program the Maratrac. I know they won't do narrowband, but I still would like to know.

It is not that hard to program the Maratrac. You will need the software, a RIB and a cable to go from the RIB to the RJ45 connector inside the radio. Don't forget the computer. It has been a few years since I have done it, so can't remember if the software is only DOS or runs under Windows. Will try to remember to take a look this weekend. You can make your own programming cable.

The concern I would have is to obtain permission from the radio system manager and get that individual to supply a letter of authorization to have the radio on the system channel or channels. That way no one gets into any trouble and no finger pointing.

The programming cable is the same as the Maxtrac/Radius/Gm300 mobiles.

The Maratrac RSS IS DOS ONLY It will run on a Pent 2 at 166 mhz but you have to be in DOS NOT a DOS box under Windows.

Win 95 and 98 will boot directly to the command prompt, requires shutting down and selecting restart in Command prompt.

Yea I know all the ends and outs of what all I would need to program it myself. I was just asking if there was anyone on the board here that can program it (has the cables, software). As for SHP on lowband it is still a hodge-podge of what they use. I will be using it on VHF high for the time being. I have been told after the narrow banding takes place I can still monitor the channels, but the audio volume will just be considerably lower.

the received audio is lower. makes it interesting if monitoring some that are wide and narrow at the same time...lol. i use a vhf maratrac to monitor public safety and as a 2 meter ham transceiver the car. I use a maxtrac and am putting a spectra in the hamshack.
