Yup...they're on 39.04. The antenna at the Glen Burnie barrack is not very high which limits the signal coverage. Also plug in 155.73. It's supposed to be used for other purposes but the Glen Burnie guys use it often.

Another fact that makes it difficult to hear MSP is that they don't use a repeater system - that is, somebody transmits and a site repeats the signal over a much wider area. It's almost strictly simplex - no repeater involved. That means that a little duckie (or the whip that comes with some base models) is hard pressed to hear them (a duckie that comes with handhelds is very inefficient at these frequencies). A good outdoor antenna, fed correctly, is the best way to have a chance at hearing them. Even a duckie like the Austin (which I have) sometimes has a hard time hearing them, and I too live in GB.

I have noticed that MSP Frederick has greatly improved their system in the last few months. They are appear to be using some sort of a repeater because the traffic of the field units is being rebroadcast on the main channel (39.40). It sounds like they have either boosted their power or they have been using a tower that is at a higher elevation or both. I also have been able to hear MSP Hagerstown (39.24) in the Frederick area which I had not been able to hear before. Has anyone else noticed this?

From what I was told that MSP Glen Burnie is supposed to be disbanded, there is talk of it but it is still listed as a barrack on the MSP Website. (Who Knows)

Jesser MSP Frederick uses the Frederick County 800mhz system which is rebroadcast over the 39.40 frequency

I had heard the same about the GB barracks as late as last year, Nate. It would be interesting to see how they're going to handle the comms from the GB area, as 39.14 is very spotty in that neck of the woods. If it were me, I'd put a couple of repeaters around northern AA county that would listen on 39.04 and microwave relay it back to Annapolis.

Oh yeah this is the state government, common sense doesn't apply here does it? hi

Of course, we can't put the barracks on 800 yet, now can we? <chuckle> 73s Mike

Ok, thanks for the info. That explains the improvement.
