Yes, but it is rare. Theres a better chance of hearing the states channels than these. you have a better chance of having a Hancock Co (or even some GPD) units talking directly to IMPD/MCSD units on a district channel than catching them on these MA channels.
Not sure if fire uses these or not, it is possible i guess. New Pal (Sugar Creek) and Buck Creek do get called for tankers on a regular basis to assist IFD in certain areas where they are automatic dispatch.

At one time, the Hendricks County Fire template had MECA conventional channels in it that were sometimes used for fireground. Don't know if that still the case or not.

Viper, when Buck Creek or Sugar Creek get dispatched on IFD runs, how is it done? Is the Hancock CAD tied into the MECA CAD somehow? The Hendricks CAD is connected to the MECA CAD and fire/EMS units are routinely dispatched across the county line in both directions.

I don't know, guess they just do it the old fashioned way and use the phone (speeddial). Any time Hancock Co has to get ahold of MECA they always say they are calling or on the phone so thats my guess.
I think part of the reason Hendricks Co CAD is tied to MECA is that MECA does their dispatching and Hancock Co does their own. Although it would seem they could email just as easily if not quicker.Just have to hope the call taker is keeping an eye on te mail too.

Funny you brought that up as I was thinking last night I hadn't heard the old VHF Point to Point channel in a while, but other departments call ISP etc on the SAFET MA and other departments for fire/ambulance or police for mutual aid, kinda surprised MECA isn't in on that too, especially since they have the capability in the Com van and use it there.
There again though I have heard units call Hancock on the SAFET MA channels and no one heard them because they were turned down :( Where i worked that would have been days off for a suspension, but then, here, they can "forget" to dispatch a call and nothing happens.

Hendricks County does their own dispatching, they have a center with 13 consoles. They use the same CAD as MECA which is why you hear cross county dispatching. When a call comes in on the border that may get routed to the wrong center, that center just dispatches it as it would be a waste of time to transfer the call since they have the same CAD.
They both use Locution automated dispatching which is why alot of people assume they are out of the same center. If you listen closely there are difference between how HC sounds compared to MECA, that has to do with timing and how stations are hit.
Conventional and MA are still used quite a bit when agencies enter buildings that have no coverage. So unless your very close to that scene you will not hear the majority of the conventional use thats going on.
