I'm getting ready to freshen-up (reprogram) my MECA1 RR feed. I don't listen as often or intently as I should as a feed provider, and even if I did I'd still be seeking your input here... Proper programming and keeping this thing running smoothly is a fair bit of work, but I'm ready to dig in and do an overhaul.

Currently, I'm monitoring all Police agencies who use the system. I know this isn't ideal; there's "too much" on the air, which dilutes important events. I need to focus a bit tighter so less real action is missed.

I've already been asked to exclude jail op's, and I think this is a good idea. Any other suggestions here are quite welcomed and all will be considered seriously.

Thanks!

Todd, You asked for input so here is my thoughts. We allready have a feed for Fire Dispatch after yours was on line and you could cut the fire talkgroups. You could also just set up the feed for Law Enforcement Talkgroups. I would ask that you set it up for IMPD N, NW, NE, SE,SW, INV-1 along with Lawerence, Speedway. It would be a great idea if you could limit your feed to those talkgroups that would be great. It would be a great idea to not program the Marion County Jail Talkgroups along with others as there are only so many talkgroups that can be heard and you can only hear one talkgroup at a time. Some of us inthe Metro Indianapolis/Marion County area use the feeds to listen on our Laptop Computers when we cannot be in front of the scanner. Thanks Todd KC9NEG for providing us with your feed.

I quote from the RR Feed Providers Terms of Service:

Law Enforcement Feeds
Feed providers agree to ONLY broadcast routine dispatch and special events channels and talkgroups for law enforcement agencies.
Fire / EMS / Rescue Feeds
Feed providers agree to ONLY broadcast routine dispatch operations and fireground / on scene operations for fire, EMS, and rescue agencies.
Feed providers agree to not broadcast dedicated channels or talkgroups for Ambulance to Hospital Communications.
Feed providers agree to not broadcast dedicated channels or talkgroups related to investigations, arson, and fire marshal activities.

Whether or not a law enforcement investigations talkgroup is allowed by the RR terms of service is a question to ask Lindsay or Gordon.

The entire TOS can be found here.

Thanks, Tim and others for your feedback so far. The issues above are, of course, a big concern to me as I sometimes worry about inadvertently breaking feed rules. Fortunately (or not...) encryption solves this problem in most cases. As usual, I will be posting my updated FreeScan file so any of you who care to dig inside and help me ferret out potential problems or suggest further tweaking would be very much appreciated. The main reason I put this feed up is simply that this system is such a b*tch to monitor, and requires such expensive equipment (set up at a good location) that relatively few of us can enjoy it.

Love listening to Marion County police as my son is a police officer there. Just wondering when it will be up and running again? Thank you for providing this service!

I got things re-arranged just now and the performance should be back where it was all along. I've also upped the volume level a bit, but I'm pushing it. Please let me know if any of you hear over-saturated audio.

I'll be modifying the programming in about a week or so (after things slow down after Brickyard weekend). Please keep the ideas coming!

I think excluding all the Sheriff's Dept talkgroups would be a great idea. Maybe exclude car-to-car TG's as well, and just include primary dispatch (MET-ED1, MET-NO1, and so on). To narrow it down as much a possible, I'd even go as far as to exclude everything other than municipal police, so no Airport PD, no IPS PD, and no college PD's. The percentage of the audience wanting to hear those specialty agencies is probably pretty small.

I knew I had seen something about car-to-car talkgroups somewhere. Lindsay is pretty clear in the following forum post:

http://forums.radioreference.com/li...law-enforcement-feeds-tos-clarifications.html

Thanks for the reminder. I'll be certain to review and address this, perhaps as soon as later today. Again, I'll post my FreeScan file; I'll appreciate anyone's review and comment as I am keen to not only stay within full compliance of the feed provider TOS, but provide a higher-quality feed with more action and less uninteresting clutter.

My 996 needs a firmware update, anyhow... Time for the "big overhaul" :D

Pretty much dead-on to what I've had in mind... Could miss some big event someday that way, but the day-to-day action would be far better :)

Will be uploading trimmed-down Law Dispatch programming shortly.

Programming includes Indy Metro, Speedway, Lawrence, and Beech Grove PD dispatch TG's ONLY. Please let me know what you all think, and thanks again for your input.

PS: Feed sounded terrible today--audio quality sure can vary based on current conditions.

I've also been dinking around with the "P25 Adjust Level" setting (I'm debating 50 vs. 200 again) and I've settled on 200 based upon displayed error rates. I've also used a level meter to push the volume about as far as I dare. Let me know if you guys hear any difference (better or worse).

FreeScan File from My Feed

As promised, here's the exact programming I'm using on my Marion County Police Dispatch feed. It's a FreeScan file for BCD996XT.
