I maintain the MedFlight radios. Our primary communications is on Ohio MARCS. We have backup communications on AEP EDACS, Franklin County Public Service, Columbus City Public Safety and Conventional VHF. All of our aircraft have Motorola XTL5000s, Ericsson EDACS and Technisonic TFM550 radios.
MFHELI1 on MARCS is used for primary communcations for all aircraft except MF7 and they use MFHELI3. MF7 is the shared aircraft between MedFlight and Healthnet and this talkgroup is common for both Columbus MedComm and Huntington MedComm for dispatching and operations of this aircraft.
MFHELI2 is a backup talkgroup. The talkgroup MEDFLT on MARCS is our interop channel programmed for all MARCS users. Any MARCS user can call Columbus MedComm on that channel 24/7. It can also be used for scene communications. MFTAC1 and MFTAC2 are extra channels. MFMICU is for our 3 Mobile Intensive Care Units.
When the XTL5000 is changed to a different talkgroup, the Pilot will talk to MedComm on the AEP EDACS MED-HELI. An example would be the medical crews giving report to a hospital on that hospitals specific talkgroup.
We maintain a backup talkgroup on the Franklin County system called MEDCOMM. We also have 11MEDFLT on the Columbus system that is used for anyone in Franklin County to talk to MedComm 24/7.
For Collumbus local operations, we use our VHF 155.400MHz channel. When inside the I-270 outerbelt, pilots use this to talk to MedComm. This channel is also used for flight following other aircraft that enter into the Columbus Airspace like Toledo LifeFlight and Cleveland Metro LifeFlight.
Let me know if you have further questions.
