I am trying to map out which medical helicopters are based where in Indiana. I am sorting by tail number.
I have a pretty good list going, but I have a few questions. What medical helicopters are based in Indianapolis?
Specifically tail number N971MA. It appears to be operated by Metro Aviation.

Here is what I have so far for Indiana:

TAIL# / USER / BASE / AC TYPE

N166AE AIR EVAC 46 16IN/Evansville, IN Bell 206
N192LL IU Health Lifeline 8IN1/Arnett, IN EC145
N193LL IU Health Lifeline KHUF/Terre Haute EC145
N194LL IU Health Lifeline 8A4/Indianapolis MBB-BK 117 C-2
N195LL IU Health Lifeline KUWL/New Castle, IN MBB-BK 117 C-2
N199SM Parkview Samaritan 1 IN97/Ft. Wayne, IN EC365
N273NE IU Health LifeLine 81II/indianapolis, IN EC145
N381PH PHI Health EVV/Evansville, IN EC635
N401PH StatFlight 5 9II5/Rushville, IN Bell 407
N402PH StatFlight 2 KSER/Seymor, IN Bell 407
N861LH Lutheran Air 1 64II/ Ft. Wayne, IN EC30
N862LH Lutheran Air 2 IWH/Wabash, IN Bell 407
N863LH Lutheran Air 3 KOXI/Knox, IN EC30

This list is by no means complete. I put it together by watching for helicopters using ADSBExchange, and then researching it.
If anyone can help add missing information, please chime in. I am located about 30 miles east of the State Line, So I am
out of range the SAFE-T system.

Thanks,

Google and Facebook are your friends for locating base locations. Someone shared a list several years ago on here. I had it on my previous phone before it died.

Here are some corrections:

Lutheran Air I is based on Portland, IN
Sam 2 is based in Rochester, IN
StatFlight 3 is based in Marion, IN

Also when it comes to LifeLine the birds (tail numbers) change locations all the time. M194LL may be LifeLine 1 today, LifeLine 4 tomorrow, and LifeLine 2 the day after that.

I was trying to map out all the LL Birds a while back & gave up. What I do is associate the tail number with the 2 RIDs in the chopper so I can at least reference the bird, but not necessarily the callsign (which can change a lot, as West-Pac said).

Is there an IU Health Medical Helicopter based at KPLD in Portland?
I'm seeing N971MA parked there often.

Thanks,
Mark

N971MA is not a LifeLine helicopter. It's a Metro Avation helicopter. Metro Avation is the company that provides LifeLine's helicopter service. Metro Avation also provides helicopter service for Lutheran Air. Lutheran Air has a base at the Portland airport. N971MA is likely a backup helicopter that MA uses while they take LL (LifeLine) or LA (Lutheran Air) helicopters out of service for maintenance.

You’re probably right I haven’t verified my list in some time. When I was making my list I tried to verify the location of the base whether at a hospital, airport or other location. I try to use google maps street view as much as possible plus Facebook.

I have separate lists for Kentucky and Ohio. I did not include them here since this is the Indiana forum.

I only included Kentucky since they have a helicopter based at the hospital in Corydon, Indiana.

I’m an old retired guy, I look at ADS-B and watch the helicopters and military aircraft plus listen to the scanner.

Ha, we're of like minds apparently. I retired two and a half years ago. I'm now doing the same thing, watching helos and military aircraft.
I'm about 25 miles southwest of Wright-Pat.

My military listening was really impacted when they pulled the F-16’s from the Indiana and Illinois Air National Guard plus the F-15’s at St Louis in Mo ANG. I live in the Red Hill MOA and it is quiet most of the time these days. I have several hobbies that keep me busy. I’ve been to Wright Patterson AFB/Museum I need to take my Grandson there. Sorry for the thread hijack.

I hadn’t heard that, I thought the last Indiana Air Guard unit flying combat aircraft were the A-10’s. I used to see the A-10’s on training flights on ADS-B into central Indiana. I figured Indiana ANG were going to be out of combat aircraft once they retire the last A-10’s.

N971MA -is- a backup helicopter used by Metro Avation. It's currently being used by Life Line, in place of N191LL I was told.
