Miami-Dade county police are using an EDACS trunked system. Miami-Dade County Fire/Rescue use conventional frequencies in the 453 MHz range. Check out Miami-Dade County in the database section of this website for complete information.

You also might try joining the Southeast Florida Yahoo Group, dedicated to scanning in south Florida.

My wife bought me a scanner BCT8 which is useless for the poilce since it's not digital. Oh well ebay here I go. I will check out the yahoo group as per your suggestion.

I wouldn't go to EBay just yet...

You can monitor Miami-Dade EDACS and Miami City Moto with the BCT8; Miami Beach PD is digital, however; I can't tell if Miami Beach Fire Rescue is digital or analog from the RR entries.

Of course, there's the RR Miami-Dade County page...

Miami Beach Fire Rescue is still analog for now. But they do have the P25 talkgroups already programmed in the radios. Don't know if/when they will swith over. Just FYI.

I do not wish to hijack this thread, so I will suggest to you, dominator, that you get the Uniden BCD396T. I've recently gotten one and can hear Dade EDACS along with several other local departments and services from my car and at home.

Having said that, are there other local Dade County systems I need to program into my 396T other than the local ones that come pre-programmed? For example, if I see a helicopter circling some cornered perp (not an unusual sight here in North Dade) I don't seem to be able to listen in on the chatter between the aircraft and ground... Am I missing some programming?

stang,

When aviation gets involved, they usually switch to one of the POL-TAC channels. On a side note, I programmed the input frequencies for MDPD (site 2) in conventional mode just for kicks. This way I hear any units that are close by without having to worry about locked out talk groups.

Thanks for the reply, Joel. Are those POL-TAC frequencies encrypted or can we listen?

I've done computer programming and am a network administrator at a local school, but honestly, when I read about programming my 396T my eyes glaze over. Is it as arcane and difficult as it seems or am I reading too much into the process?

The POL-TAC channels are in the clear.

The concept of the 396 is way different than older scanners, but it is VERY EASY to program. Once you get the hang of it, you'll breeze right through. PM me if you have any trouble programming it. Good luck.
