For days I have been trying to figure out who is on 159.2175 Digital Encrypted NAC 081 in the waterbury area.

Now I know, It is Middlebury PDs new channel, the only way I was able to figure it out was they have it cross patched to their low band, and every low band TX comes with a TX on the VHF encrypted channel.

So now we know Middlebury PD is going VHF encrypted, just when they will turn off the low band patch who knows.
Another PD down to encryption, Im told 2 or 3 more are doing it in the next year or so also in the same area. We will see

The question you might care to raise is not THAT they encrypt but rather WHY they find it necessary. Just a thought.

Im 100% fine with all law enforcement encrypting, we as the public have no real reason to listen to them live.
We can go get tapes of what was said the next day if we think something is going on and that is just fine.
On that note all comms for EMS should be encrypted, we have no real rason to listen about why an ambulance is going to anyone house or what info is given to the hospital.

Again I say REAL reason, I love to listen and have since the early 80s, I have over 15 scanners and some of tthem are always on.
Im going to miss listening but I can't come up with a good reason to listen LIVE except that i like to.

Depends on what state you live in and how much $$ you want to pay for the cost of Research and duplication to obtain those tapes.

Not all states are created equal.

It's a shame about the Vet. I definitly see a circle the wagons attitude coming out. The Sheriff complains about bad press but gives no details to counter, and when you see officers getting lawyers, they must be scared of something. I guess the agencies involved have said they won't support and defend them for reasons still unknown. This will be another case of pay them off to be quiet, and no one will ever know what really happened. They should make the Officers and the PBA pay the settlement, not the taxpayers.

Middlebury PD

Well the simulcast on 45.500 is already gone it seems and there was a ton of
encrypted conversation on the narrow highland this past weekend.

I wonder you think Southbury had anything to do with their encryption decision??
