Has anyone heard, i have not been listening much lately if UPD has switched some cars to Midvale TG or if they are working off of UPD tg's. I was coming home from work the other night and seen one of the new UDP cars on a traffic stop on 7200 South, and it said on the side "Proudly Serving Midvale City"

Midvale/UPD

I noticed a UPD officer running a speed trap on 700 West in Midvale the other day. It didn't make any sense to me until now!

I drive past the Midvale PD Station each day for work. I will take a closer look today. I have noticed new UPD vehicles in the parking lot. I didn't think much of it since there always seems to be some outside agency vehicles parked at the station from time to time. They are dark grey Dodge Chargers that look very different from the "normal" UPD appearance.

As I was typing this, I did a little searching and found this from a city council meeting. Looks like they might be making the switch.

They're black Chargers. They took the white door wraps off the Midvale cars and put the UPD logo on with the midvale part in the back. Not all the cars are changed yet.

The change just started about two weeks ago. Their uniforms haven't changed yet.

It would intresting tosee how Ucan handles the chang would they keep midvale talk group or would
they dispatch from the wasatch channel ? If they keep the old talk group that would make it easey to follow.
but we will have to wait and see and happens .

There was a UPD unit today on 700 West doing a traffic stop. That is a good question about the talk groups. The UPD slideshow in the link I posted above mentions that in addition to the UPD officers assigned to Midvale, there will be 10 other officers from adjacent areas that will provide assistance when needed. Responding on Wasatch seems to make sense. It would reduce the gap between Holladay/Millcreek and the White City "island".

Who are the Tango units that are heard on the UPD Spec. Services TG? Is that Taylorsville?

Thanks for confirming that. Are there any other units on that TG? It seems under-utilized relative to the Oquirrh and Wasatch TG's. Maybe Midvale would fit in well there.

Yes, most Sierra units are dispatched on Special Services. Juliet units were on Spec Services but they were moved to Request 1.

Fire also move to UFA

Slightly off topic but related... Their fire department also changed to Unified Fire Authority from Metro Fire. As they both use the same TGs not much should change there other than maybe the response channel (2 vs 3) and the logos on the trucks.

UPD radio IDs are showing up on Midvale/Cottonwood Heights TG the last couple of days. Looks like the change is underway.

I highly doubt VECC will continue to dispatch for them. That's an extra cost that's already included in UPD. I'd guess Cottonwood Heights will eventually take over that channel and Midvale will transition.

As for the officers they are now members of the Unified Police Dept. The Sheriff's department is a separate entity that handles the Metro ADC, Civil Division and Protective Services.
