Is anyone picking up mill creek park in Youngstown I know they are running digital but I never hear anything from them

I'm running a grecom 800 I checked the settings on that I only have tone, silent or noise and that doesn't work thanks anyway
He is saying that Mill Creek is encrypted -- you aren't goign to hear any useful audio from them.

Yeah I know but I'm not even a mile away and I'm not not even picking them up I'm still trying to learn about these scanners but I know that much
How would you know you weren't picking them up? You can't decrypt them. You don't know their talkgroup. And there are all kinds of encrypted agencies in that county -- so even if you hear ENC, you won't know which agency's encryption you are hearing.

They are running on project 25 and I have both of there talk group's in my scanner when they first went digital a couple years back I heard them the first couple months and then nothing whether I can hear anything or not I'm not picking them up so either they changed the talk group # or they did something else
Ok. Sorry, that was my misunderstanding. I thought Mill Creek was on MARCS, but I see they are/were on the Austintown/Boardman Joint PUblic Safety Radio System. I see the talkgroups in the DB (two of them), and they are not marked as encrypted. But, JRL is suggesting that they are now encrypted. If they went encrypted you shouldn't hear anything out of the talkgroups (unless GRE scanners do not mute encrypted audio).

If Mill Creek Park PD went encrypted and this is confirmed - an update needs to be submitted to the Database. Database currently indicates Mill Creek Park is not encrypted Austintown/Boardman Joint Public Safety Radio System Trunking System, Austintown, Ohio - Scanner Frequencies The Mahoning County Public Safety ops is a mixture unlike Trumbull County. Last time I monitored MCP PD on the trunk system they were in the clear (mid-2019).

I'm sure your right. But RR cannot make that determination unless people are willing to step up and put their name on the line (via submission) stating for fact that a talkgroup is partially or fully encrypted. And I don't think anyone has done that with regard to boardman PD.

To add to Mike's point, there has been some discussion in the Ohio forum about law enforcement on the the Mahoning Valley area P25 system all being encrypted, but we can't update the database on rumor or speculation; we do need someone to confirm by monitoring and submit that a particular talkgroup is encrypted either full or part time.

I'm gonna answer this for you right now because I listen to this system alot and besides mill creek park boardman pd is encrypted you can pick them up but good chance you won't hear anything and YPD is also but you can hear some on #3 and Poland and canfield are also cause I never hear anything from them either I've been listening to scanners for close to 8-9 years not long but I'm trying to learn more because I enjoy the hobby and plus if something goes down in my neighborhood I want to know to protect my family but this hobby seems like its going extinct and thanks to everybody that helped on this I appreciate it!

Is Austintown PD still in the clear? I don't scan them.
If so, they are the only LE agency on the system that aren't encrypted.
