Can someone post here when the switch does actually accrue. I am waiting to buy a new scanner until the switch is made as I am having it programed when I buy. Not worried about the P-25 as I will only be listening to Transit and they are not going to digital as of now or in the future.

Can't give you an exact date but some earlier posts hinted at being sometime in October but these things often don't fall into place on schedule. I don't think my scanners can be reflashed but when this does happen, I'll just program the new freqs. as conventional so at least I can hear something even though it won't trunk track the system until my money clip allows me to buy a pair of new scanners. Also for those facing a similar situation, program the mobile freqs. That way you can hear nearby activity without going buggy if your scanner can't trunk track anymore.

Uhhhhh.....when the switch does actually occur, you won't hear ANYTHING anymore... and transit will eventually go P25 for voice, as will all MCTRS users. ..

Huh? why won't we hear ANYTHING anymore?

While it is true once the system goes P25 EVERYTHING will be digital and your analog scanner wont pick them up, you can still hear it fine with a digital scanner, and also rebanding and digital are very different things, the rebanded frequencies will be exactly the same as the previous 866 mhz frequencies just in a different spot, some old scanners like the pro 97 cant track talkgroups on those frequencies but you can still listen by all means.

Yep, I know all about whats going on. Just wonder why TheFantom thinks reband means we won't hear anything anymore.
Also lets not forget there is only one P25 site at this time. Putting up all the new sites (a few more then the analog system) and testing will take a while. I am no expert, but I am guessing it will be a year or more to complete

The complete switch to P25 is years down the road and not even worth mentioning at this point.

The original poster with the 'non-rebanded' scanner... HE won't hear anything but silence... once the switch is thrown

Sure would like to hear what goes on in Newsrooms when their scanners go silent.
Journal Sentinel only has BC895's, BC780's and BC245's in Newsrooms. "who messed with the scanners?" LOL

TV media might be hurting for a few days

There is a lot of talk now about Milwaukee County & Waukesha County rebanding their radio systems withing the next 30 days.
Supposedly Milwaukee County is hoping for the 1st week of October, guess they still have to finish reprogramming Sheriff dept radios, but it sounds like all the Suburban Departments are reprogrammed already.
When they flip the switch to the new frequencies, some older scanners will no longer be able to track the systems, and will be pretty much just big paper weights to some people.
What really sucks about the new scanners is you will need software to
program them. You could do it by hand but it will take forever with all the menu steps.
If you want more info about rebanding, there is a lot of info here Rebanding - The RadioReference Wiki

I haven't heard any testing on the new freqs for Milwaukee County yet.
You would think there would be some going on, unless there really is no reason to.
