• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a programming base and software (ver. 2.1.0), and have a question about programming the tone codes. I have my codes, but when I enter them, they change over to something close. I have tried changing from Motorola, to Plectron to GE and User, but it always changes back. The tones I have are straight off of the crystals from our II's, and we have had some programmed before in the past to the exact tone. However, when I make changes, it transforms to something else.
Is it a software version issue, a program setting issue, or something else?
They seem to work fine, but just something that is puzzling.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

That's normal, the software will usually adjust the tones by a very small amount. If it's changing them more than 1 or 2 Hz, then you might run into some issues. So if you input 855.5 and it changes to 854.9 or 856.1, that's not a problem. This usually only occurs when you have the software set to User.

It's important to know what plan (manufacturer) your tones come from, i.e. are they all Motorola, all Plectron, all GE, or are they a mixture? If all of them are from one tone plan, then you should leave that tone plan selected in the software to get the most accurate results. If you have mixed tones, i.e. Motorola 855.5 for the first tone and Plectron 1082.0 for the second tone, then select User and you will see the software adjust them slightly as noted in my first paragraph.

Bottom line is this: If the pager is alerting just fine after the software adjusts the tones, then don't stress about it.

If it is within a +/- 5hz tolerance, you will be fine. In fact, as I tested this once, i got a Minitor IV to activate with up to 8 hz off of what it was set to.
