To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I could really use some help programming a Minitor V. Here is what I want to do: I have a total of 5 sets of tones that I want the pager to activate for. I want two positions (one audible, one silent/vibrate) to limit to just 2 sets. I want one position to activate audibly for all 5 sets. The last position would be a priority scan which activates for all 5 sets. I've gotten as far as to enter in all 5 sets of tones, establish which ones are "on duty" and which ones are "off duty". But in the position settings tab, I can't seem to figure out which settings would make this happen. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Under the "Function Switches" tab:

SW-A: Selective Call F-1, Alert Type=Tone, On/Off Duty box checked
SW-B: Selective Call F-1, Alert Type=Vibrate, On/Off Duty box Checked
SW-C: Selective Call F-1, Alert Type=Tone, On/Off Duty Box NOT Checked
SW-D: Monitor F-1, Alert Type=Tone, On/Off Duty Box NOT Checked (it won't let you check it on Monitor)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for replying. That setup is exactly how I programmed it. Somehow though, the two sets of off duty tones are still not activating in any of the positions. I'll check it again just to be sure.

I don't believe you will be able to get it to work the way you described...

You will need to set F1 with your frequency info and the 5 sets of tone values...

Set F2 with your frequency info and the 2 sets of tone values...

SW-A: Monitor or Select Call F1...tone, vibrate, or tone/vibrate
SW-B: Monitor or Select Call F1...tone, vibrate, or tone/vibrate
SW-C: Monitor or Select Call F2...tone
SW-D: Monitor or Select Call F2...vibrate

That will work great. Its seems so logical that I'm a little embarrassed I didn't think of that. Thanks for your help.

on/off duty

Which tones do you have set to the OFF duty selection? The 2 that you want to open on all settings, or the remaining 3 that you Don't want to open on 2 settings.

If you state that the selected 2 are not opening on any setting, I believe you have the On?off duty labels backwards. ie - with those to set to OFF, they will not open on any setting where on/off duty is enabled, hence they would only open on the all 5 setting C

I am facing the same dilemma... We currently have Min V, IV, III and Watchdogs...we have four tones - two siren tones that distingush between a fire call and an ems call (siren goes off 3 times for fire 1 for ems) then the pager alert tone is the same for fire or ems. We would like to use our officer tone and chief tone as a duty ems tone and a daytime ems call tone. (Duty crews ride 1900-0600) All of the pagers are 2 channel. I am at a loss on how to program the duty function as I heard its used backwards? Any help would be great.

I want to use:

"A" for all three to alert - Fire. EMS, and Duty (ems)
"B" for fire and ems to alert (not duty tone)
"C" would monitor the dispatch channel and the 2nd channel (tactical)
"D" would be same as "A" except vibrate only
