Great news for scanner listeners in the SW metro!! Avenger, I see you are in PA so you may not know this, but Eden Prairie is the only city in Hennepin Co that has not switched to the P-25 ARMER system. Their current EF Johnson system cannot be monitored by scanner.

I see, I thought maybe you had just stumbled across this in a search or something. There has been talk locally about them upgrading their radio system because they had reached a settlement with Sprint/Nextel to pay for radio upgrades due to interference with the current system, but this is the first official word that I know of about switching to the P-25 system.

Thanks for the info. So this for sure means that they will be monitorable once they change provided they do not choose to encrypt?

Can the EFJ P25 systems be monitored on the current p25 capable scanners?

Many of the military EFJ P25 systems have been set up in an EDACS style configuration. Yes they can be monitored (as long as encryption isn't used) but it takes a little bit more work to get the configuration right.

Actually Eden Prairie will be part of the ARMER system. They will be using EF Johnson Radios. All P-25 radios have to be compatible.

Quote from Eden Prairie News:

New system

Neal noted that the city radio system is moving to a Hennepin county radio system.

“We are doing that for several reasons but one of them is this interference issue.”

“We’re getting ready to do that and this settlement agreement is going to fund that to happen,” he said.

Esbensen noted that it’s always been the city’s intention to make the move over to the regional radio system.

This particular situation with Sprint Nextel, “allows us to do that in a more efficient way.”

Police and fire will be operating on the regional radio system as will SouthWest metro. That means that police and fire will be on the same frequency and be easily able to communicate in case of emergencies.

“Ultimately, it gives us complete interoperability,” Esbensen said.
