• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've had one for a couple of months and have it working pretty well. The documentation/manual is horrible, but once you load the programming software off the web and figure out how it works you can solve some of the perplexing problems. You have probably already figured out how to change volume by pushing MON while turning the top right knob. Mine was turning itself on in the middle of the night until I found auto on in the programming software and disabled it. Once I got mine set up right I've been happy enough with it. It transmits 7 watts on all three bands and I like the overall setup of the radio. I would not have purchased a VEASU, as that crosses the line and then some as a ripoff. Mine is branded MML, a name not created to deceive. Electonically, it's not much like the YAESU VX-8DR, no digital capabilities. I bought it primarily for 220 at decent power and have been pleased with it.
Is the Zastone the same as the MML.....

I like Tom's suggestion, good luck with that.
I bought an MML that was replaced under warranty by my onshore dealer with a Zastone. Other than the small branding label they are physically identical as far as I can tell. The programming software transferred my old settings into the new one without a hitch. There is also a Higrade UV-8DR that appears quite similar and uses the same programming software.

What site did you order the programming cable from?

I have a few of these. Waiting on the programming cable to set up some local frequencies. The only thing I've learned so far is how to hard-reset the radio. You press and hold the MENU key while powering on the radio. It will display RESET?, Release and press MENU again. It displays VFO?. Press MENU again. Displays WAIT and almost immediately "reboots". Volume is all the way up and language resets Chinese. MENU item 16 to change back to English.

I've had to do this several times. Once because I could not get audio to the speaker without pressing the MONI key. Not sure if this is a "feature" or what. Scarce information on the internet about these radios but for $43.00 seems like a decent, cheap "tho-down".

This station is programmed and set manually, just set the frequency of the jump, etc. then hold down the V / M key with the MENU key to jump to the menus in the menus, press the V / M key once, and to the right you will have the number of the memory by turning the upper wheel to the desired value and wait for 3 seconds to save the selection
