I recently began monitoring Mobile Life Ambulance on the OneVoice system from Dutchess County near Poughkeepsie using a BCD436HP.
I chose a few sites that have a pretty good signal where I am:
Beacon
Esopus
Schunnemunk
Ellenville
Dover
I am hearing a lot of transmissions on all 4 talkgroups:
500751 - Orange
500753 - Ulster
500755 - Dutchess
500757 - Westchester
It does seem like I am missing some though. I'm new to monitoring DMR multi site systems so I wanted to confirm what I think may be going on and see if anyone has any better ideas.
1. The signal isn't being decoded properly due to interference or poor reception. Any suggestions on tweaking settings that could help? I'm doing the best I can with a UHF specific antenna near a window. I get pretty good signal strength indicators on these sites usually, best is Ellenville (4 or 5 bars) oddly enough since I'm way closer to Beacon or Esopus ( usually 2 or 3 bars).
2. This is where I'm not sure how things work... but I believe a user radio needs to be on the talkgroup and affiliated with a tower I can receive to hear the transmissions.
For example, Mobile Life 234 radio is on 500755 - Dutchess and affiliated with the Esopus site, Esopus site should carry all traffic on 500755 - Dutchess, so even if Mobile Life 265 radio is on 500755 - Dutchess but affiliated with a NYC site, I should still hear them. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm trying to wrap my head around this system and how Mobile Life specifically uses it.
