• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Here are a couple pics of a Uniden 780xlt and a FT-7800M mounted in my 1996 Toyota 4Runner. I needed a low impacted install. I didn't want to drill any holes or screw anything into the dash because I don't know how much longer I'll have the vehicle, and I didn't want to affect the resale value.

So, I went to Home Depot and bought around $4 is PVC pipe and made a contraption I could attach a ram mount ball to. You can't see it in the pictures but there's a two foot section of PVC on each side of the center console that wedges down between the seats and runs parallel with the tracks the seat sides back and forth on. I drilled a hole in the PVC next to the RAM ball mount and ran all the wires through the PVC to the back seat floor board. This way the wires won't get caught on anything if someone moves the seat back and forth. It actually turned out more stable than I expected. The great thing is I can remove it all in a matter of seconds and it super lightweight. The audio on the 780xlt is nice and loud too. To mount the FT-7800M I pulled out the cup holder about an inch and use a piece of Velcro.

Why that's downright.

"Hamsexy"

Yep.

You took the time to mount the 7800 head, but went for the PVC mount on the scanner? I'm confused...but it's your ride.

I think people are missing the point here. It was an attempt to think outside of the box. I was going for more of a "ham sexy" approach than anything else. I spent $3.00 on a radio mount made of PVC for Christ's sake, and that's exactly what I got, a $3.00 radio mount. I never claimed that it was the best or safest thing out there. Of course, I could have gone out and spent hundreds of dollars and got the greatest / safest mount in the world, but that's not what I needed or wanted. I drive my truck 4 to 5 times a month, mainly on back roads / side streets and needed something I could put in and take out in a matter of seconds (theft is a concern). As far as mounting the 7800, it took 5 seconds and a piece of Velcro, not the safest thing either. If this was a vehicle I drove daily, or spent a lot of time on the highway, I would absolutely agree that mounting a radio using PVC wouldn't involve the most common sense.
