If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

At work we have the XTS 2500 as our handheld radio. Sometimes I forget to put my radio in the charger before work or it is not all the way charged when I leave. I was wondering what options I had as far as a cheap mobile charger. I dont need it to do anything fancy, just charge the battery. I thought about just getting a desk charger and a DC converter but I wanted something I could mount that would look a little better. Any ideas?

"Cheap" and "mobile charger" do not collide in the same sentence. If Moto makes one, it will be $$. Even the Jedi series one has a list price in the $100's. There is a small little "cup" charger that may work, but that has a list near $100 also.

Prepare to have a heart attack if you look at XTVA's.

Yeah I had a feeling it was not going to be cheap. I guess I just need to get better at putting my radio in the charger at night.

Gee, ya think?

I would say it's a good idea to get a spare battery, but you'd forget to charge that one too.

The easiest way would be buying a cheap inverter from whatever store is local, and hook it up that way.I do believe however the powersupply inside brings the 120ac down to 12v'ish dc.If you have some mild Electronics skills this should be an easy mod.I have not done this with this particular charger, but many other types.Good luck...:)

I don't know how the charger works, but if it has a standard plug, maybe a cigarette adaptor can be used (if the charger runs on 12VDC)

In my "fire mobile" I've got 2 "cup" style chargers. One for my MT2000, the other for my XTS 2500. Both plug into the cigar lighters and do fine. They are Motorola, and unless my radio guy was fibbing, the cost was $79. That was a year or two ago.

These are home charger units and have no input 12vdc surge transient protection from things like starting up the vehicle and jump starting another vehicle so more mods are required than just wiring it up to the vehicle 12vdc supply. As inefficient as it is the inverter idea would probably be safer for the charger electronics as the inverter would act as an input shock absorber for the home charger use in a vehicle. I have seen many of these home charger power supplies electronics toasted due to transients on the input side. They are not easy to fix as they are actually made by a third party (astec) and info on the electronics is sparse .

These would be preferable as they are made for the mobile environment. Motorola part or model numbers would be more helpful if you could supply them - thanks. One thing to remember though is that these models are not impress chargers and I beleive the xts2500 comes with an impress battery so you may loose the battery state of charge indicator on the xts2500 but it will charge the battery.
