I bought a model 94 from co-worker. figured out to program it but when i listen to wpd and wfd along with mso (county) i also pick up "junk" agencies such as wrecker services and cement trucks. it wouldn't be so bad but when waco gets dispatched to a call i want to listen to that. just when i get tuned in here comes bubba gump cement truck driver talking to his buddies about last nights football game and their manager screming on the radio what truck is next in line to load. by the time they get finished i've done missed all the excitment that waco was dealing with. i asked the guys at my local RS dealer how to get rid of this if possible but all they can do is give me a list with the scanner freqs on it. i don't need that as i already have what i need. also they'll program my scanner but with what they want to put in there whether i want or need it or not. on their list though is something called TT number on one column with 2-3 digit number below that. the next column has what agency is on that such as waco fire fire ground channel A or waco PD channel B. is this what i need to get rid of nonsense and if so how do i program these numbers? any help is greatly welcomed and if you need any more info on the scanner or the list i'll give you what i can. THANKS!!!!!

you're post is very hard to read..
I assume you are talking about a RADIOSHACK PRO-94 Scanner?

Not sure how the cement trucks would be cutting into your Waco PD/FD Transmissions.

You need to program only the TGs you actually want to listen to, and close the bank.
Not sure how that works.

Or at least separate the cement truck/garbage truck stuff from the PD and Fire stuff. (put them in a diff bank).

here's the manual btw..
http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/doc61/61172.pdf

I skipped thru it and couldn't find a mention of open/close banks.

Yeah, sorry bout that. It is a pro-94 model. I'm not sure on how to enter talk gtoup IDs or where to find them. The scanner was almost completely set up by previous owner so I didn't go in and change to much. I did look thru online manual but I'm not fully understanding the TGs. Maybe thats what that TT number is on the sheet I got from radio shack. Like I said it has column labeled TT number with 2-3 digit number listed below that. The next column has what agency goes with that. The list I have is a work so I'll pick it up and post the way it is listed on the sheet. Maybe that will help clear up any confusion.

Under the heading "System Talgroups" that looks like my sheet but it doesn't have HEX and diplay columns on my sheet. Could be DEC is the same as TT on my sheet. I'll look at it and see if numbers match up. As far as entering TGs the online manual should show how to do that, correct? Thanks for the help so far.

No offense but it's similar to asking a football coach to explain why his play book has all those crazy X, O and arrow marks in it. Threre's just too much in your post to explain all at once. You need to read a bit and get a fundamental base knowledge of the different technologies you are dealing with. (edacs/motorola trunked vs. conventional).

From your post it could be inferred that the radio is programmed with a mix of trunked and conventional system. Knowing RadioShack, that's probably the case. If so, it's anyone's guess what it's picking up and there's no way for us to tell you.

The problem needs to be attacked from the other direction. Clear the thing and rebuild the memory with only the data you WANT to hear not what some chucklehead at RadioShack hoped you might want to hear.

Welcome to the hobby...the data management is 75% of it all.

As a side note, the Pro-94 is a Uniden built radio. You want to program the TG's that you want and be in ID Scan mode (not ID Search) mode. I don't think you can mix conventional in the same bank on that model, but I have never owned one and it is a quite old model design wise, so I may be wrong on that.

makes sense why there was no info on Open/Closed modes in the Manual...

The PRO94 was my first REAL scanner. I got it for my birthday in 2003. You CAN do talkgroup search on a trunked system (see manual page 42-SEARCHING A TRUNKED BANK). This is how:

1) Press TRUNK. The scanner begins scanning both trunked and conventional banks.
2) Hold down SCAN for about 1 second. The scanner switches to the trunked search mode.
3) Hold down SRC for about 1 second. The scanner switches to the trunked search mode.

BaLa, the reason you couldn't find this info is because they don't call it Open/Closed mode. They just call it "Trunk Scan" and "Trunk Search".
