Anyone ever hear the US Postal Service? Theres a large facility close to me and I've scanned 406 to 408 and the Federal band on SDS200 and I think I've only ever heard some kind of truck yard freq? I think it's DMR, but I've never found anything else.

Most USPS facilities I've found usually have two DMR frequencies, or one frequency using two slots, maintenance and operations. I'm sure some larger facilities might have more, but it's not like monitoring police or fire, there isn't a lot of traffic.

Ohh, which two were those, anyway?

About 5 years ago when I worked at the Naval Station in Norfolk the USPO 18 wheelers used 162.225 simplex carrier squelch to talk to the facility on Church Street in Norfolk, and each other on the the Southside Tidewater, and the Peninsula.

I would think most of the radio use would be postal inspectors who are federal law enforcement agents.

They also have a division of uniformed post office police who are responsible for protection of postal property.

Sorting Facilities tend to be 406-420 and vary from Analog to DMR

Truck/Transportation, I've found in both the 162-174 as well as 406-420, best to go into SEARCH mode for a few weeks and see what you
capture..

The USPIS (Postal Inspectors) as well as the USPP (US Postal Police) tend to be 406-420 and are ENC, 99% - rare 1% CLR but that has been Dispatch Only from the Mega Center

For those unfamiliar the current US 406-420 MHz federal land mobile band plan, repeaters are in the 406.1125 - 410.9875, with inputs between 415.1125 and 419.9875. Simplex from 411.000 to 415.100.
Not ALL agencies have migrated to the NTIA (Suggested) format, there are still many out here in RF World on the legacy channel plans.
Also I search 400-420, yes we were all taught 406.xxxx but there has been RF (Non Satellite) found in the 400-406 region :)

My memory or impression is that the NTIA frequency allocations made in 2019 was the result of a directive, not a suggestion. Now it is 6 plus years later and many agencies have not complied. From what I understand those agencies have not been funded to enable them to comply, but will comply when funded to do so. NTIA is not issuing any new directives to force an agency to comply by a certain date. Some agencies are closer to complying than others. The U.S. Forest Service, at least in the west, seems to be in compliance, the BLM seems to have made substantial progress, while the NPS and USFWS haven't made nearly as much progress.

You probably have more exposure to this situation than I do, so the above may not be correct.

Also from/for the Hobby side, we don't have direct insight into what/why the NTIA does, but I do know there are also Exceptions/Exemptions issued

As stated , 162 - 174 and 406 - 408 are good starting points. But they can also be on trunked systems.

United States Postal Service

OneVoice Network
DMR Motorola Connect Plus (TRBO)
USPS using talk groups on this system

Is there a ways to find out if its a talk group? Would that be found in a Search?

Search the systems in your area in the database Search for Postal or USPS are listed.

Look at trunked systems in you area and have a listen to them in search mode

If all else fails, park near a mail sorting facility with a dongle and SDR# scanning 162 - 174 and 406 - 408 ..
