Not sure if this question was asked before but looking to monitor the Wildwood. Mainly North Wildwood as well as the crest and Wildwood itself while on vacation. Looking for police fire and Ems as well as probably morey’s piers. I know police fire and Ems used to be all vhf is that still the case? If so a basic scanner will work or do I need something digital I have no interest in state police or any surrounding areas just keeping a ear on the local stuff while on vacation

Did you check Cape May County in the RRDB? The listings are pretty comprehensive, including links to the NJICS for those who have migrated to that system. There's a separate Cape May County category in the NJICS that lists all of the known talkgroups. It's really all right there in front of you, just have to spend a few minutes looking for it.

I know what is in the database but I was asking for confirmation from some local users

I'm sure if the Wildwoods migrated to NJICS the change would have been reported by now. Avalon recently made the migration. "The Crest" is on NJICS in the clear.

As of last August I confirmed City of Wildwood and North Wildwood were still active on VHF

I spend around 4 weeks a year in Cape May and can verify the accuracy of the RR listings of main frequencies for the Wildwoods. You will pick up most of the action in Wildwood and North Wildwood by monitoring PD dispatches of 154.965 and 155.64 along with Island Wide EMS and FD 155.79. All toneouts are on 154.13. Wildwood Crest PD is on the NJICS as correctly listed in the DB but the FD is still on Island Wide VHF. I can't verify the various tac channels and Morey's Piers in the Wildwoods as I just use handhelds when staying in Cape May, but as the DB does seem to be accurate I would just enter them in your scanner. You should also be aware that Wildwood and North Wildwood PD are fairly low power. Years ago all three PD's dispatch repeaters pegged the signal strength to the right but in recent years the signals are scratchy on handhelds in the section of Cape May closest to the Wildwoods. You will hear things just fine on the WW Island, but if you are a few miles away the signals will be surprisingly weak.

I would also enter the Cape May NJICS talkgroups if you have a capable radio. I have heard some action on the fire channels during Wildwood incidents, and all adjacent towns to the Wildwoods are on the system now, including Stone Harbor, Middle and Lower Townships along with Wildwood Crest.

BTW I am currently in Cape May so my information is current.

Thanks I stay right in North Wildwood so reception shouldn’t be a problem. Any simulcast issues with NJICS if I do get a digital capable scanner?

I'll be cruising the Washington Mall today blue scooter, American Flag Waving!!!!!!!!
I'm certain to run into you one of these days. Down here frequently and will be retiring and moving to Cape May permanently in a couple of years. By the way your Bergen County Scanner Frequency page was a big help pre-RadioReference when I would come back to the area to visit family.

I would agree that it depends on location and which scanner you use. My SDS 100 and G5 both perform flawlessly on the NJICS in areas of the state where my 436 performed erratically. Here in Cape May my 436 just about matches my SDS 100 and G5 because the Cape May Simulcast site is on top of a water tower just a few blocks away, and there is only water south, east and west of us. North Wildwood is about equidistant from the Cape May City site and the Cape May Courthouse site so it is possible you may get some simulcast problems depending on your scanner model.

Might bring my G5 then thanks for the help fellows.
Since you have a G5 you should be of is that around a year ago the Cape May Simulcast site number changed from 6 to 9. Just in case you previously programmed the system into your G5. It had me puzzled for a few minutes when I arrived for a visit last year and the G5 wasn’t picking up Cape May but the SDS 100 was working fine. Enjoy your visit!
